"Yamim
Nora'im" DAYS OF AWE
The High Holy Days
.."ye
have been weighed in the balances"
Daniel 5:27
The Awesome Days http://www.thewatchman.net/awesome.html
G Killian's Homepage http://members.aol.com/gkilli/home/index.html
The days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are very special
days called
the "Days of Awe". It is usually
during this time that many righteous deeds are performed:
"Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance" Luke 3:8
Faith without works is dead, as James tells us in James 2:14-18
Rev. 19:8 tells us
that the "fine linen is the righteousness of saints."
"Confess your faults one to another"James 5:16 (to the offended
party)
[ as led of the Holy Spirit and with discretion].
We must remember that forgiving others means harboring no
resentments, revenge or ill-will toward that person. In fact, we
expressly pray for our enemies. Forgiveness does not
necessarily mean fellowshipping with those whom we have been
offended by. Common sense tells us to stay away from parties that
injure.
"From such turn away" 2 Timothy 3:5
Confusing forgiveness with fellowship turns people off from
coming to God. They can't handle a relationship that they know is
not wholesome for them, and oftentimes ministries have people
believing that we must get along with everybody. That just
doesn't happen to be reality, and it isn't the truth. Real life
consists of people we get along with, and people we don't. Holy
Ghost discernment and discretion must always guide us.
Forgiveness is the balm for our hearts to keep them from getting
bitter. God administers that balm...injurious people don't.
If we continue to nurse hurts and grudges , they will fester with
time. That is why Teshuvah (Elul) is a good time to take our
burdens to the Lord. No one understands like Jesus.
( p. s. Just because one has relatives doesn't mean one has to
show up every holiday. Even our Lord showed us an example. John 7:2-8)
ACCOUNTABILITY
These days are filled with awesome, holy, reverence for God:
" The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom." Psalm 111:10
These are the days of accountability. We are accountable before
God for our lives.
Luke 16:19-31 tells of the outcome of Lazarus and the rich man.
This parable pulls back the curtain of eternity and lets us peer
beyond the grave to hell and to heaven. Yes, there are
consequences for sins....of commission and of omission. Our heart
needs to be right before God. We must be moved by Christ's love
for us in dying on the cross, and then translating that love into
actions led by the Holy Ghost. We must shed abroad the love of
God in our hearts. Romans 5:5
The Days of Awe lead up to the most solemn Day of all
Yom
Kippur, the Day of Atonement ,
the 40th day.........(40 is the number
of Judgement.)
Here is the sequence within the 40 days:
Elul 1 (1st day)
Creation ( 25th day of Elul )
New Year ( Rosh HaShana 30th day; Creation of man / future
Judgement day)
Ten days
to Yom Kippur ....the 40th
day)

"Tonight begins the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, Yom
Kippur. The essence of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is, in
Hebrew, Tshuva, which literally means repentance. But the root of
Tshuva is l'shuv - meaning, to return. On Yom Kippur we attempt
to return to our real selves,
( Ed: return to a
personal relationship with our God, Yeshua
)
ourselves without transgression, have asked for and having been
granted forgiveness by the L-rd. This allows us to begin the New
Year afresh, instilled with purity and a new outlook on
life." ---- David Wilder Yom Kippur 2003
KOL NIDREI "all vows"
On the eve of Yom Kippur, the congregation chants the "Kol
Nidrei"...a prayer annulling or canceling out any previous
vows one may have made in the past year.
YOM HaKodesh...The Holiest Day Romans 3: 23-25
http://www.menorah.org/yomkipp.html
Genesis 22 is read on Yom
Kippur.
The following day ---Yom Kippur--is the holiest time of
the year for the Hebrew people.
Many prayers are recited expressing true sorrow for sin, any and
all sins.
For an example of confessional prayer,
please see Daniel 9 : 3-19.
In Isaiah 1:18, we are
told:
"Come now, let us reason together, though your sins be as
scarlet they shall be as white as snow."
We have sought God's face; we are now confronting Him.
We are also told in 1
Corinthians 11:31 that if we examine and judge
ourselves now (repent), we need not go over that material again
at the Day of Judgement.
"For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be
judged"
Confession involves:
1. Admission of our faults
.Ezekiel Chapter 18:20-32
"Repentance is taking sides with God against
yourself" Tom Stewart
Confession is admitting to God what He already knows about us.
Confessing our faults is telling God our motives, priorities,
weaknesses, sins and habits of error.
2. Asking forgiveness
1 John 1:9,10
.. James 5:16
Romans
3:23
Psalm 51:17 "A broken and a contrite
heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise"
Psalm 32:6 "For this
shall everyone that is Godly pray unto Thee in a time
when Thou mayest be found."
"Ye have not, because ye ask not" James 4:2
3. Amending our ways (changing our behavior
and attitude)
.Romans 8:4,
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Day of
Redemption..."Yom HaPeduth" Ephesians 4:30 and 1:11-14;
ATONEMENT "kippur"..."to cover over"
a bull, a goat .......... but no
Lamb
It was on this day in earlier times that the High Priest alone
went into the Most Holy Place of the temple with the
substitutionary-blood of a sacrificed bull
to sprinkle on the Mercy Seat. This atoned for the High Priest's
sins.
Then a goat was sacrificed and the blood
also sprinkled on the Mercy Seat. This was to atone for the sins
of the people. Both were substitutionary acts, and could not
really cleanse or forgive sins.
Only the shed Blood of Jesus at Calvary could cover over
("kippur") our sins.
Hebrews Chapters 7, 8, 9.
The obedience to God's commands in Leviticus fulfilled the
obligations of the people at this time. However, since Messiah
has come, only His sacrifice is effectual now.
AZAZEL.....scape goat
http://www.piney.com/Edersheim16.html
http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/sbs777/faq/azazel.html
http://aish.com/holidays/The_High_Holidays/articles/Goat_for_Azazel.asp
http://www.aristotle.net/~bhuie/azazel.htm
http://www.godrules.net/library/eastons/eastons12.htm
In earlier times, the confessed sins of the people were put upon
a "scape goat". This goat was then led out to the
wilderness and let go, never to return. This signifies how God
forgives confessed sin...He forgets. Guilt has no more power over
us now that we have come to God. Guilt looks backwards and never
quits. Holy Ghost conviction looks forward to restoring our
relationship through confession of faults. The conviction then
ceases when the relationship is restored.
(The point of confrontation is
reconciliation)
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1
John 1:9
"Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended: but this
one thing I do, forgetting those things which are
behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are
before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13, 14.
KAPPAROT substitute expiation
http://www.jewishmag.com/25mag/kapora/kapora.htm
http://www.torahtots.com/holidays/yomkipur/yomkstr.htm
The Temple sacrifices of earlier days have long been absent from
Jewish holy days.
Instead, they practice"kapparot"...a substiute
sacrifice. The custom in some places today is to have a rooster
or hen (chicken) killed and blessed by the local rabbi (made
kosher), and waved over the head, while certain verses and
prayers are said. A rooster is waved over the head of a male,
while a hen is waved over a female. "gever"
Yom Kippur is an annual event, a formality. In actuality, we
interface with God daily. Each evening we review our day,
thanking God for His blessings, and asking His forgiveness where
we fell short. Repentance is continual, because we continually
fall...."the just man falls 7 times a day". We must
"fall-forward", into His merciful arms.
And according to our sincerity to amend our ways, we receive
God's mercy.
"His mercy endures forever."
YESHUA Our Atoning Lamb
Actual atonement---is accomplished by the
shed Blood of Jesus Christ....His crucifixion
Romans 3: 24,25 and Romans 5:9
at Calvary. His Blood covers over our sins, and judgement is
averted. We are cleansed
1 John 1:7, and our
sins are removed as far as the East is from the West. Our
transgressions are cast into the sea of forgetfulness. see also Psalm 103:17
This is what Yom Kippur (Atonement) is all about ..
Receiving God's forgiveness through the
substitutionary death of Jesus Christ.
He is our Mercy Seat, our throne of Grace,
our great High Priest, Advocate, Savior and Redeemer. Complete Book of Hebrews He is our
Passover Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, in whom we
have forgiveness of our sins
.in Him alone.
"And they sung a new song, saying, 'Thou art worthy to take
the book, and to open the seals thereof: for Thou wast slain, and
hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every
kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation" Revelation 5:9
The Passover Lamb is personal salvation (Hebrews 9:12-15). The
slain goat and the scape goat are for the sins of the
nation (Romans 11:26). When Christ
returns to this earth, there will be national
mourning from all the tribes of the earth.(Zechariah 12:10-14) Will He return on Yom Kippur?
NO ARK of the COVENANT NEEDED
Today, we no longer need an Ark of the Covenant with the golden
lid of the Mercy Seat;
it was merely a former means, now done away with.
"And it shall come to pass when ye be multiplied and
increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they
shall say no more,
'The ark of the covenant of the LORD'
neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it,
neither shall they visit it: NEITHER SHALL THAT BE DONE
ANY MORE."
( Jeremiah 3:16)
The REAL is here. Jesus is our propitiation (our Throne of
Mercy...Romans 3:25)
We can now be written into the Lamb's Book of Life
the
book of the redeemed who have put their trust in the shed blood
of the Lamb-Jesus.
His work at Calvary alone saves.
"This is the work of God, that
ye believe on Him whom He hath sent." (Jesus)
John 6:29
There is no other human being
throughout all of time that can save us from our selfish
condition. No one....
"And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice,
'Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was
able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
And one of the elders saith unto me,
'Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the
Root of David,
hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals
thereof".....
"Thou (Jesus our Passover Lamb) art worthy...for thou wast
slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood...worthy is the
Lamb." Revelation 5: 3-5
"That is why they call this Friday, 'Good" (T.S.
Eliot).
THE
BOOK OF JONAH.....40
days
The Book of Jonah is read on Yom Kippur, for it says in Jonah 4:2
"I knew that Thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to
anger, and of great kindness
.
"Extending mercy [hesed] to
thousands who love Me and keep My commands."
Exodus 20:6 ; Joel 2:13; Psalm 86:5
"Blessed is he whose transgression is
forgiven, whose sin is covered." Psalm 32:1
We now go on, renewed in the graces of God, Who is
able to keep us from falling, as long as we keep our relationship
with Him open and alive.
NEILAH-- the closing
of the gates

Shofar HaGadol....the Last Great
Trump ( Matthew 24:31)
The closing ceremony to Yom Kippur and to the season of
Teshuvah is called "Neilah".
We remember that Heaven's Court and Gates were opened on Rosh
HaShana and for the following 10 days the scepter of God's mercy
was extended to all with contrite hearts.
Now it is time for the gates of the Heavenly court to close. But
before that happens, there is one final call.
One final blast of the Shofar is given just before the closing of
Heaven's gates. This is the ultimate Last Call to return before
the doors are closed. This final trump is called
Shofar HaGadol..."The
Great Call".
The Great Aliyah (coming
up to Jerusalem)
The Great Regathering
This Last Trump signifies the gathering from North, South, East
and West and is a call to return.....to return to the Land of
Israel and to the Book.
From Arutz 7 -- August 12, 2004
THIRD PLANELOAD OF NORTH AMERICAN OLIM ARRIVES
The past two months have seen three more planeloads of Jews from North
America touch down on the runway of Ben-Gurion
International Airport with the help of an organization called
Nefesh b'Nefesh. The most recent of these landed yesterday
(Wednesday) morning. Each of the chartered flights were
greeted by throngs of friends, relatives and well-wishers who
woke up before dawn to join the crowd that filled one of the
giant El Al hangars at Ben Gurion's Terminal 2.
"The feeling is amazing - there are thousands of
people here to greet us," said Beth Meschel, whose mother
Elise called in to Israel National Radio's live
broadcast to speak to her daughter minutes after she
disembarked from the plane Wednesday. Akiva Gersh exited
the aircraft strumming a guitar. "There is such an
incredible feeling of unity here," he said, walking between
two lines of IDF soldiers singing, waving Israeli flags, and
helping the new immigrants with their luggage.
"What a great way to come home," Gersh said, his wife
Tamar by his side. The couple plans to settle initially in
Jerusalem. Their message for those still in the Diaspora: "You've
gotta come home - your souls are already here, Jews
coming home will change the world for Jews and non-Jews
alike."
Israel National Radio covered the August 11 flight live. It
can be heard here: Part
1; and here: Part
2.
Sharansky, a former Russian refusenik and prisoner of Zion
before finally being able to make Aliyah himself, says the new
immigrants from North America are more impressive than he.
"I had an easy task - I had to break the Iron curtain. They
had a much more difficult task - they had to break the
golden curtain, overcome many obstacles, sometimes
facing opposition from their own parents."
People are realizing that these are not just punctuated
events," Rabbi Yehoshua Fass told IsraelNN's Ezra HaLevi.
"We are tapping into the current of the historic
waves of Aliyah and in Israel and throughout the exile, people
are sensing the pure unadulterated love of Israel that is the
energy surrounding the current wave."
"This is just the beginning, though," Fass said in an
interview with INR's Yishai Fleisher minutes after this summer's
final Nefesh b'Nefesh flight landed, "we are looking at
hundreds more flights. You have 6 million Jews in America - with
help from the communities, we will certainly bring 100,000 new
immigrants in the coming years. Until now, we have been
passive facilitators with very little promotion - people have
found us - we are going to start getting into a more active role
starting in September. Our first avenue is to send around 70
ambassadors - articulate, professional, happy successful, veteran
olim who have come over the past few years back to address their
home communities from coast to coast to express to
[North American Jews] their love for Israel,
what went into their move, and how they are doing now.
That itself will open up a whole new population of prospective
olim."

ALIYAH OF NORTH AMERICAN
JEWRY PICKING UP
The year 2002 has seen a
significant increase in North American aliyah (immigration to
Israel). As of September, 1,680 new immigrants arrived from North
America, compared to 1,312 during the same period in 2001. Over
30% of them were sponsored by the Nefesh B'Nefesh organization,
including almost 400 on one planeload in July and 130 who came
afterwards. The organization reports that many hundreds of
applications for next summer's group have come in, and multiple
flights are foreseen. Of those who arrived on the July flight and
sought immediate employment (as opposed to a Hebrew studies
course), 86% already have professional placement. (Arutz 7)

The Sabbath that falls within these 10 High Holy
Days is called the "Shabbat Shuvah"... the Sabbath of
Return.
We authors believe that the Shofar
HaGadol blown on Yom Kippur is the great sound of
the trumpet Messiah spoke of in
Matthew 24:31 where the Messianic-elect of Heaven
are called forth.
"And He shall send His angels
with a great sound of a trumpet (Shofar HaGadol),
and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds,
from one end of heaven to the other.
Mark 13:27 tells us
that the Messianic elect from earth
are also called forth (the Remnant....see also Isaiah 27:12-13)
At this same time, the Remnant is changed in the twinkling of an
eye. ...a translation into a glorified body right here on earth,
just like at the Transfiguration.
Matthew 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-10; Luke
9:28-36
There is also at this time what Luke refers to as the
"Resurrection of the Just"
(Luke 14:14).These are
the Old Testament Believers before the New Covenant , like John
the Baptist, who are friends of the Bridegroom and not the Bride.
Up from the grave they'll arise..."I will ransom them from
the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I
will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction."
Hosea 13:14
(John 3:29...Matthew 11:11)
"Behold I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at
the last trump (Shofar HaGadol):
for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed (transfigured).....for
this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality." 1
Corinthians 15: 51-53

This is the Last Trump on the Last day.
WILL HE FIND FAITH ? Luke 18:8
Do heaven's gates close?
For the Believer, God's ears are always open, as well as Heaven's
gates. However when we habitually sin, God can make the heaven as
brass and the earth as iron...
Deuteronomy 28:23....or
visa-versa...Heaven as iron and the earth as brass
(Leviticus 26:19)
In Revelation 15:8 the
temple of God is closed until the 7 vials of wrath are poured
out.
