Meeting "with the many" to be held in the future -- Feb. 27, 2007
"The main point is that Arab countries will now be involved in the Quartet's efforts. The forum's host, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said the situation had changed, and "we are finding Arab partners in Mid-Eastern settlement." He added that the Quartet would hold its following meeting in an Arab country, but did not specify where and when. There are three obvious options - Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan. It makes sense to fix the time for the Quartet's summit only after the Palestinian government of national unity starts working. Until this time, the situation is not likely to change. "

US aid to Palestianians
-- Feb. 2, 2007
The U.S. has committed $86 million for the Presidential Guard and another $42 million to promote programs aimed at countering Hamas. The Americans maintain that its aid will not go for weapons but instead will be used for training and for uniforms, radios and other equipment. However, massive American aid to Egypt and Jordan has made it easier for those countries to ship rifles, with Israel's approval, to Abbas.

“I have been told by Iranian friends that Ahmadinejad is indeed crazy, but not stupid,” Lewis warned. “He really believes in the end of days that he is heralding. There is a widespread belief among Shi’ites that that time has come. Mutually assured destruction is not a deterrent to Ahmadinejad, but an inducement"

“We, Jews, Christian and others are inheritors of the rule of law,” Woolsey said. “Democracy without the rule of law is a mob and capitalism without democracy is theft. Jefferson said, and it is printed on his memorial: ‘I have sworn on the altar of Almighty G-d eternal hostility toward every form of tyranny over the mind of man.’ ”
Asked what role he saw the media playing in the current global plight, Woolsey had harsh criticism for most journalists’ inability to classify

Whatever Mr. Carter's motives may be, his authorship of this ahistorical, one-sided, and simplistic brief against Israel forever disqualifies him from playing any positive role in fairly resolving the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. That is a tragedy because the Carter Center, which has done much good in the world, could have been a force for peace if Jimmy Carter were as generous in spirit to the Israelis as he is to the Palestinians.

EU and MidEast to meet -- Nov. 27, 2006
She [ Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni ] said the EU and the United States must lean on Palestinians to recognize Israel, foreswear violence and honor existing peace deals. The Palestinians are trying to form a national unity government that could restore direct international aid only if it meets these three conditions.
Tuomioja [ Finland's foreign minister ] chaired a meeting of the EU foreign ministers and their counterparts from:
Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Turkey and Tunisia.

The EU's Euro-Mediterranean aid program aims to shore up peace efforts by bringing Israel and its neighbors together in a partnership meant to lead to a free trade zone. To make that possible, the EU has since 1995 funneled €21 billion in grants, aid and soft loans — mostly to Arab nations.

The solution will be to regard us as guilty of crimes against humanity - in that we are living in "occupied territory".  Countries around the world already view us in this way, and I was once told in one country I visited that they're being 'nice to me' by not arresting me.  The government will then say that it need not compensate people for the homes that render us international criminals."

Syria prepares for war on the Golan -- Oct. 27, 2006

Security officials here told WND there have been indications the past few weeks Syria is seeking to launch a provocation. Besides Assad's statements, the officials say state-run Syrian media have been broadcasting regular warlike messages unseen since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, in which Syria and Egypt launched invasions from the Golan and the Sinai desert.
"The tone [in Syria] is one of preparing the public for a war," said a senior security official.
He said any Syrian provocation would likely be coordinated with Iran. Tehran and Damascus, which both support Hezbollah, have signed several military pacts

Calling Israel into NATO's Transatlantic Alliance
-- Oct. 25, 2006
turning NATO into a military alliance of the world's democracies
Israel's move closer to the trans-Atlantic alliance is widely seen as a significant step in NATO's bid to redefine its post-9/11 role around the world and particularly in the Middle East. Israel is the first state to formalize an ICP agreement with NATO, putting it on what some hope will become a fast track toward close-knit security and political ties, and even membership.

[ Prof. Dan ] Schueftan's primary concern is over Israel's security independence.
"Once Israel joins NATO, the claim of the alliance will be that since it defends Israel, Israel must surrender its own strategic capabilities, or at least make them transparent to alliance members," he said

"I'm talking about the new kind of war, in which Israel's dependence on multilateral frameworks to act will only convince the radicals that the likelihood of Israel responding to provocations is lowered. This will increase the desirability of such provocations."..........
NATO already reinvented itself after 1989, Asmus said, and must do so again. For him, this includes the transformation of NATO into the strategic tool of the democratic West in reshaping the Middle East, partly through expanding into the region
While the core of this idea - turning NATO into a military alliance of the world's democracies - has encountered much resistance among NATO member states

Israeli officials are impatient to see a transformation of NATO into a more global democratic alliance.
"Israel expected NATO to break the regional concept and
become a global alliance based on common ideals and threats" but was disappointed, said Col. (res.) Uri Naaman, the Defense Ministry's coordinator for NATO and European defense organizations.
In such a NATO," Naaman declared at the forum, "Israel could play a central role."
Dr. Oded Eran, Israel's ambassador to both the European Union and NATO, echoed these sentiments

EU forces at Israeli - Egyptian border -- Oct. 1, 2006
Cibrian-Uzal also revealed that a high-level meeting took place last week between senior Israeli, Palestinian, European, and US officials to discuss opening the Rafah border crossing. Under an agreement hammered out last year by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Israel relinquished control of the crossing to the Palestinians, and a team of EU officials was sent there to monitor the crossing.[ Ed: to make sure there was a highway for their enemies ]

Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Yuval Diskin told the cabinet Wednesday that since last August some 20 tons of high-grade explosives that can significantly upgrade the range and quality of rockets in Gaza had been smuggled from Sinai into Gaza. Although he did not say that the explosives came through the Rafah crossing, he did say that money and terrorists had come through there.
He said that the
EU could conceivably undertake a peacekeeping role in the West Bank, where the geography was more suitable, but that this could only be done within the context of an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

Jerusalem surrounded by Armies -- 2006

www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/armies.html

Mediterranean Military Build up -- Sept. 4, 2006 watching Iran and Syria
"This expectation has brought together the greatest sea and air armada Europe has ever assembled at any point on earth since World War II: two carriers with 75 fighter-bombers, spy planes and helicopters on their decks; 15 warships of various types – 7 French, 5 Italian, 2-3 Green, 3-5 German, and five American; thousands of Marines – French, Italian and German, as well as 1,800 US Marines.
"
So, if not for Lebanon, what is this fine array of naval power really there for?

First, according to our military sources, the European participants feel the need of a strong naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean to prevent a possible Iranian-US-Israeli war igniting an Iranian long-range Shahab missile attack on Europe; second, as a deterrent to dissuade Syria and Hizballah from opening a second front against American and Israel from their eastern Mediterranean coasts.

Abbas calls for an international Peace Conference
A multi national force ( UN ) for the Palestinians too ? -- Sept. 1, 2006
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday called for the deployment of an international military force in the Palestinian territories, as part of the political plan set forth by the future PA unity government.
The new Palestinian government will also call for an international peace conference

Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Almea recently told Haaretz that if the international force in Lebanon succeeds, it should also be sent to Gaza: "The idea of sending UN troops to the Gaza Strip is currently being aired. But I think that if things go well in Lebanon, a similar positive process could also begin in the Gaza Strip: the release of [kidnapped soldier Gilad] Shalit, a Palestinian unity government that meets the criteria set by the international community, and the presence of a UN force to bolster the Palestinian government.

US wants multinational force in Lebanon -- July 24, 2006

NEW YORK — The Bush administration is attempting to fashion a NATO-led force to eventually enter southern Lebanon in a move that would further extend the alliance's mandate from European defence to a deeper engagement in the global struggle against Islamic militants.
In doing so, Washington is signalling that it has little confidence a UN-led force would be able to intervene effectively in southern Lebanon.
Instead, the United States is pushing for
a robust fighting force led by NATO but with a United Nations mandate to disarm Hezbollah and extend the sway of the ineffectual Lebanese army.

( US ) Central Command and ( US ) European command
WASHINGTON, April 22, 2004 – President Bush has approved a change to the Unified Command Plan that places Syria and Lebanon in U.S.
Central Command’s area of responsibility. The plan establishes the nation’s combatant commands, their missions, responsibilities and geographic areas. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is responsible for advising changes in the plan. The president signed the change March 10. [ 2004]

Before the change, Syria and Lebanon were in the U.S. European Command’s area of responsibility. Israel remains in the EUCOM area. “We continually review the Unified Command Plan, and the placement of Syria and Lebanon is one of the issues we’ve looked at since we stood up
Central Command,” said a Joint Staff official on background
Central Command grew out of the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force. It is based at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and is responsible for an area from Pakistan to Egypt and from Kenya to Kazakhstan. Army Gen. John Abizaid is the organization’s commander.
U.S. European Command is headquartered at Patch Barracks, Germany. The command stretches from South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope to Norway’s North Cape and from Iceland to Russia. Marine Gen. James Jones commands U.S. European Command.
In January 2003, another change gave new missions to U.S. Strategic Command. Those included giving the command responsibility for global strike and responsibility for integrated missile defense among other changes

http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/unifiedcommand/change.html

Nevertheless, Jones, who is also the commander of all US troops in Europe, said, ``NATO could go in."

Blood samples on newborns
Israel's enhanced neonatal screening initiative will be built around PerkinElmer's AutoDELFIA(R) automatic immunoassay system. DELFIA is the leading technology for the screening of newborns for hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and cystic fibrosis worldwide, and can deliver results for several tests from a single sample. The blood samples are collected from a small prick to the heel of a newborn's foot. To augment Israel's screening capacity in order to accommodate additional tests, PerkinElmer will deliver multiple AutoDELFIA units as well as reagents and equipment.

Israel 'engages' Europe in June
In the middle of June, Livni is expected to address both the European Parliament in Strasbourg and meet with European Foreign Ministers at the EU-Israel Association meeting in Luxembourg
Israeli diplomatic officials said Israel wanted to "engage" the Europeans about the plan, presenting them with Israel's argument that it desired to negotiate a settlement with the Palestinians, but that if this were not possible then it would be better not to let things remain "stagnant" and instead take action that would improve the current situation and not preclude a negotiated settlement in the future.

Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz met with Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov on Saturday during a NATO conference in Sicily, Italy. He said that last week's invitation by Russia for Hamas leaders to visit Moscow "created a break in the international unity against Hamas and terrorism."

On Friday, Mofaz addressed the NATO Defense Ministers and said that the Hamas victory had meant a "defeat for the forces of peace in the Middle East." In a speech that barely merited a mention in the world press, Mofaz explained that Israel would not accept a terrorist government that calls for its destruction

"In one televised scene from Amona, IDF Central Commander Maj.-Gen. Yair Naveh was speaking in defense of the police, when a man screamed out, "Why did you [plural] kick boys in the testicles?!" As the camera showed the man being pulled away by two burly policemen, he continued to yell, "Why did you smash them in the stomach? I saw people being smashed in the stomach!"

A shaken-up spokesperson for Amona said from the scene, "People are walking around with blood gushing from their heads... The police abused girls, clubbed people in the head, smashed them in their stomach after they were tied... It's simply a disgrace that this is Israel Police and the body that is supposed to enforce our laws "--Arutz 7

Closing Highway 60 -- Jan. 18, 2006

A division of the Israeli Defense Forces has reportedly drafted a proposal to restrict major portions of Highway 60, which runs directly alongside many of the West Bank's Jewish communities, allowing only Palestinian vehicles to travel along the road. Palestinian cars bare distinct green license plates. Israeli vehicles have yellow markers.

Highway 60 was constructed in the early 1990s to ease traffic for Arab and Jewish commuters, and to make it safer for Jews to travel throughout the West Bank by bypassing major Arab cities from which snipers had fired on Jewish vehicles. It connects large Jewish communities such as Be'er Sheva in the Negev to Hebron, Bethlehem, Beit El, Shiloh, Eli, Nablus, Jenin, Afula and Nazareth, and extends to an entrance to Jerusalem

To this declaration it should be added that Israel also grants "free passage to the holy places regardless of religion, gender or race" to anyone who wishes to visit the courtyard of the Temple Mount and that everything that is currently applicable to the Muslims on the Temple Mount will continue to apply as it does today
