Apocalyptic Hope .............. Counting the Omer ........ Leviticus 23:15
LAG BaOMER
Lag BaOmer falls on the 33rd day of the counting of Omer. It is
exactly one week before the Ascension of our Lord on Ascension
Thursday.
Following the Christian Easter ( Bikkurim) Lag Boemer would also
fall on a Thursday.
Jesus, our First Fruits from the dead --- 1 Corinthians 15:20
--- 26
Although the 33rd day of the Omer count is not mentioned in the
New Testament, it reminds us that the counting of the Omer is a
continuous symbol of the resurrecting of all Believers.
Counting the Omer and
1 Corinthians 15
" Although many read this passage as
a commentary on the order of resurrection, Paul is actually
making a technical reference to the holy day of Sfirat Haomer
(First Fruits). It is not just that Yeshua was the first to rise
bodily from the grave, but that by so doing, He is the direct
fulfillment of the feast of First Fruits.
We miss a very important Biblical truth by
not using the term "First Fruits" as the name of this
feast, because "first" implies a second, third, fourth,
and so on, and that is the real meaning of this feast. We are not
only celebrating the resurrection of Yeshua of First Fruits, we
are celebrating the resurrection of the entire body of Messianic
Believers, His Church! We shall all be resurrected and go to
heaven, just as the L-rd did,
"Every man in his own order"

Lag B'Omer
-- ( 33rd day -- always one week
before Ascension Thursday
Ed: Although we at AH do not believe that our Rapture is
Ascension Thursday, we do believe "Ascension" is a
valid word for the Rapture.
Therefore we can deduce that perhaps Lag Boemer is an indication
that WHENEVER the rapture takes place, we will have a 7 day
notice.
Just a thought. Noah was given a 7 day day notice before the ark
ascended. Genesis 7

From my
own perspective, the deaths of the students ( plague) during this
period appear to me to be a judgement of asymmetric - religion (
deviating from Scripture, and getting into mysticism ).
That is just my opinion.
The 33rd day -- the remission of the plague -- reminds me of what
Habakkuk said,
"O God in wrath remember mercy". Truly, He does not
treat us as our sins deserve.

Lag Ba Omer 2006 -- Arutz Sheva
Israel's Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, in his work
B'Maagalei HaChayim, notes that the custom of playing with bows
and arrows on this day is "apparently because tradition tied
this date with the Bar Kokhba rebellion."
One tradition has it that Rabbi Akiva's students were the main
force of Bar Kokhba's army, which succeeded in
defeating both Roman legions that were then in the Holy Land,
restoring Jewish independence for four years, and -
according to many - beginning to rebuild the Holy Temple. For
more on the "failed Messiah" Bar Kokhba, the
spiritual/military war for independence, and Rabbi Akiva's role
in these events, see this article by Rabbi Pinchas Stolper of the
OU and NCSY
The government recently decided to make Lag
BaOmer a national day honoring IDF reserve soldiers,
in appreciation for their motivation and willingness to
"share the load." This will be the third year that
soldiers serving in reserves on this day receive free rides on
Israel Railways
LAG BaOMER IN MERON from Arutz Sheva -2003
Thousands of people have already gathered at the gravesite of the
Mishnaic sage Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron, in northern
Israel, for the traditional Lag BaOmer celebrations this evening
and tomorrow. The celebrations began this afternoon with the
traditional parade of Torah scrolls from the home of the Abu
Evron family, in the Old City of Tzfat, towards Meron. Rabbis,
residents of Tzfat, and visitors young and old from all over the
country took part in the 170-year-old tradition.
The minor holiday of Lag BaOmer - the 33rd day of the Omer period
- is marked most notably with traditional bonfires throughout the
country. It marks the anniversary of the death more than 1,800
years ago of Rabbi Shimon, whose teachings comprise the text of
the primary Kabbalah sourcebook, the Zohar. The bonfires - a
tradition kept by Jewish children of all backgrounds in Israel -
are said to represent the light of Torah
