Rosh Chodesh Nissan is counted as the new year for the purpose of counting the reign of kings of Israel and the months on the Hebrew calendar. Other new years are the first of Elul (for the tithing of animals), Tu B’Shvat, the 15th of Shevat (new year for trees, to determine when a given tree’s fruit is first permitted for consumption). Rosh HaShana, the first of Tishrei, is the new year for counting years from creation and toward Shmita(Sabbatical) and Yovel (jubilee) years.

The academic libraries in many top American universities and colleges are powered by Israeli technology, Israel21c reports. The "Aleph" system developed by the Israeli company Ex Libris is also used in national banking institutions around the world. 

Aleph permits libraries to order and receive stock, set up and control budgets, catalogue and display books, maintain an inventory, conduct searches, locate books and manage circulation.   Libraries currently equipped with the Aleph system include Harvard University, the University of California, the British Library, the China National Library and the Historical Department of the French Army, which selected the Aleph 500 integrated system for its scientific library. 

The banking version of Aleph is used by the European Central Bank, Banca d`Italia, the National Bank of Belgium, the Central Bank of Iceland, and others.

The development of Ex Libris' prized system began back in 1980 when a team of librarians, systems analysts and computer programmers in Hebrew University of Jerusalem set out to create an automated library system for the university that would be efficient, user-friendly and multilingual.  The result was Aleph, which stands for Automated Library Expandable Program.  Following implementation in most of Israel's universities, veteran Israeli software expert Azriel Morag was hired to translate the concept into a commercial reality.  Today Ex Libris has grown into a multinational company and a world leader in library and information management systems, with its language-customized systems used by more than 3,000,000 people at about 1,300 sites in 50 countries on 6 continents in 20 interface languages.

Ex Libris is privately-owned, though the Hebrew University is the single largest shareholder.  Much of the continuing development work is still conducted in Israel, where about 100 staff members - including the original Hebrew University team - work on development and support, marketing and sales.

WASHINGTON - President Bush is promoting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process by dangling an attractive economic prize: the removal of U.S. trade barriers for countries in the Middle East within the next decade.

In a commencement speech Friday at the University of South Carolina, the president was urging the Israelis and Palestinians to open negotiations for a peace accord, a senior administration official told reporters Thursday evening. Stopping in Columbia, S.C., before a trip to sell his tax-cut plan in New Mexico, Nebraska and Indiana, Bush was arguing that increased, unrestricted U.S. trade with the Middle East could help the region prosper, the official said. The president believes "economic prosperity is critical" to making the peace process a success, the official said.

Bush was offering broad outlines for a Middle East free-trade zone in his South Carolina speech. The United States already has free-trade agreements with Israel and Jordan and is negotiating one with Morocco. The United States also has such pacts with Canada, Mexico and, as of Wednesday, Singapore.

Later Friday, the president is headed to Santa Fe, N.M., to spend the weekend at the home of Roland Betts. Betts was a Bush classmate at Yale, a campaign fund-raiser and a partner with him in the Texas Rangers baseball team. Betts is the lead planner for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site.

This plan calls for the PLO to become Jordanians. The Jordainians have virulently resisted this ever since 1948. How then could this plan be feasible ?

All they would have to do is make Trans-Jordan (the West Bank) part of the state of Jordan. Yes, that would mean that Israel would surrender yet another large chunk of land to her neighbors (like she did when she gave away the Sinai to the Egyptians in the C.D.P.A. 3-26-1979).

Would this new addition to the State of Jordan then be "the swelling of Jordan" as the Bible states in Jeremiah 12:5, 6; ( and Jer. 49:19 and Jer. 50:44)

" and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trusted, they weary thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan ?

4. JEWISH MAJORITY THREATENED---June 14-2002 Arutz Sheva
The Jewish majority in Israel faces a demographic threat.  Minister of the Interior Eli Yeshai (Shas) said yesterday that at the current rates of growth, Jews will not be the majority population between the Jordan and the
Mediterranean within eight years. 
As it stands now, Yeshai noted, there is a growing number of IDF soldiers who refuse to take the oath of allegiance on the Tanakh (Jewish Bible), but rather insist on doing so on the New Testament. 
Yeshai calls for an "emergency public debate on the matter before it's too late."

In order to limit the number of non-Jews who take advantage of Israeli repatriation laws, Yeshai recommends that the Law of Return be changed.  Under the current law, individuals with one Jewish grandparent
may obtain automatic citizenship - even though Judaism recognizes only the offspring of a Jewish mother or a halakhic [Jewish legal] convert as Jewish.  Housing Minister Natan Sharansky (Yisrael Beiteinu), however, says
that now is not the time to discuss changing the Law of Return.

A CAVE. The scrolls, while believed to be less significant than the Dead Sea Scrolls found in the region in 1947, will shed light on the time of the revolt led by Simon Bar Kochba. I made the point that these Scrolls were written at the time of the early Messianic Jews and would most likely reveal many things about Yeshua and His earthly ministry. And that it will be a major problem for some Rabbi’s to release such information if that is what they find. European Jews meet in solidarity with Israel in Brussels.... May 29-2002
BRUSSELS, May 29 (JTA) — From Austria, Greece, Italy and England they came. From France, Germany Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
And, of course, from Belgium, where the rally took place.
Usually concerned with local problems, European Jews took a big step toward uniting their voices with a rally that drew nearly 10,000 people Wednesday to Brussels, the seat of the European Union.......
The demonstration was initiated by the European Jewish Congress and coordinated by several Belgian organizations. It was timed to coincide with an E.U. parliamentary session, though neither the Mideast nor anti-Semitism were on the Parliamentīs agenda.
French, English, Flemish, Italian, German, Greek and Czech could be heard among the ranks of the parade. When it came to singing, however, everyone turned to Hebrew.
