Apocalyptic Hope

SPECIAL CHILD

by Edna Massimala

A meeting was held quite far from Earth;
"It's time again for another Birth",

Said the Angels to the Lord above,
This special child will need much love.

His progress may be very slow;
Accomplishments he may not show.

And he'll require extra care
From the folks he meets down there.

He may not run or laugh or play.
His thoughts may seem quite far away.

In many ways he won't adapt
And he'll be known as 'handicapped'.

So let's be careful where he's sent;
We want his life to be content.

Please Lord, find the Parents who
Will do a special job for you.

They will not realize right away
The leading role they're asked to play.

But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger Faith and richer Love.

And soon they'll know the privilege given
In caring for their gift from Heaven.

Their precious charge, so meek and mild
Is Heaven's very Special Child.

Isaiah 55: 8,9

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts".

Dedicated to our Mary Catherine and Barbara Ann,
and to all Special Children everywhere.

Ending lives of disabled preborns.... eugenics -- July 19, 2005
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/232776_focus17.html

In his State of the Union address in 1905, Roosevelt stated:
"There are those who believe that a new modernity demands a new morality. What they fail to consider is the harsh reality that there is no such thing as a new morality. There is only one morality. All else is immorality.
There is only true Christian ethics over against which stands the whole of paganism. If we are to fulfill our great destiny as a people, then we must return to the old morality, the sole morality. ... All these blatant sham reformers, in the name of a new morality, preach the old vice of self-indulgence which rotted out first the moral fiber and then even the external greatness of Greece and Rome."

Church of England allows killing handicapped babies -- Nov. 14, 2006 -- financial expediency
Comments at end of article
And the Bishop of Southwark, Tom Butler, who is the vice chair of the Church of England's Mission and Public Affairs Council, has also argued that the high financial cost of keeping desperately ill babies alive should be a factor in life or death decisions
A spokeswoman for the UK Disabled People's Council, which represents tens of thousands of members in 140 different organisations, said:
"How can the Church of England say that Christian compassion includes killing of disabled babies either through the withdrawing or withholding of treatment or by active euthanasia?
"It is not for doctors or indeed anyone else to determine whether a baby’s life is worthwhile simply on the grounds of impairment or health condition
Yet the Revd Butler's submission makes clear that there are a wide range of acceptable reasons to withdraw care from a child - with the cost of the care among the considerations

UK Disabled Peoples Council spokeswoman Simone Aspis said the group's members were appalled that the Church was joining doctors in calling for disabled babies to be left to die.
"It appears that the whole debate on whether disabled babies are worth keeping alive is being dominated by professionals and religious people without any consultation with disabled people," she said

COMMENT
" The simple story here is that all nations are proven by the care they provide to the neediest and most vulnerable of its' citizens.
If a nation seeks to circumvent God's decisions regarding life - it will ultimately have to answer for not being willing to make the effort to care and provide comfort to the neediest of its' number" -- Kate
COMMENT :
" I am shocked by this article. How can anyone wish to murder a child just becuase they have a disability? Every child that is born is born for a reason; if they were not meant to be here, they would not have survived in the womb. Every child is a gift and should be valued and accepted for who they are, regardless of ability or disability, and have a right to live just as anyone else does.
I work with children who have severe learning difficulties and disabilties and I cannot imagine a world where they are killed at birth just because they are considered to be 'different' by some doctors.
Is killing children with disabilities just the same as Hitler killing disabled children before and during World War Two?" -- Ami

Peter Singer wins international ethics award --July 13, 2003
A controversial professor who advocates killing the disabled up to 28 days after birth, has been honored with an international ethics award.
Peter Singer, professor of bioethics at Princeton University, has been given the 2003 World Technology Award for Ethics by the World Technology Network.
The organization says its members are dedicated to the business and science of emerging technologies such as biotechnology and new energy sources.

When Singer was hired by Princeton in 1999, a group calling itself Princeton Students Against Infanticide issued a petition in protest, charging the Australian professor "denies the intrinsic moral worth of an entire class of human beings – newborn children."
"His assertion of the appropriateness of killing some humans based on others' decision concerning the "quality" of their lives should strike fear into everyone who cherishes equality and honors human life," the petition said.
