THE
CRUCIFIXION

"Can
you see........on that Tree........the LOVE OF GOD ?......... Marty Goetz
Hymn-Song " Were You
There When They Crucified my Lord ?" -- Johnny Cash
(

Matthew 26..............Mark 14...............Luke
22.............
John 18 ........... Isaiah 53
For years, the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ remained a mystery to
me. Why would God die ?
And why would He die for me, or for my sins ? I'm not a heinous
person. Certainly anything I've done in my mundane life couldn't
be worthy of such torture and execution as Jesus' crucifixion....
I don't get it.....what does His death 2000 years ago have
anything to do with me ?
And so for years I gave lip service to church liturgies exalting
the death of Christ and nodding complacently that yes Jesus died
in my place for my sins so that I would not go to hell in the
confessing of my wrongs. Yet deep down I maintained that I was
never really bad enough to warrant such a substitutionary death
as undergone by Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Today I am older. My inventory reveals sins of scarlet, and while
the mystery of the Cross remains in part, my understanding has
been enlarged by the fact that we face a Holy God. God's absolute
holiness and purity cannot dwell with sin....any sin. All sin is
a breaking of our relationship with a Holy and Perfect God. God
is God Almighty. He is so "other" that our finite minds
cannot grasp the miracle of our relating at all to such a Holy
Being. And while God is very God, He also is man, in the person
of Jesus Christ.
He clothed Himself with our experience just so He could see our
condition of weakness and frailty from our perspective.
This does not excuse our sins....it only gives a context in which
our sins are committed.
"For we have not a High Priest which cannot be touched with
the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted
like as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15.
In this context of fears and anxieties we grasp at straws in
order to survive....money, wine, women and song. We live trivial
lives in endless boredom. We run from answers and help and
truth.......anything but God.
God still reaches out each day....loving us in our weakened
condition, yet hating sin. Jesus stretched out His arms on the
cross and still seeks to embrace us, if we but turn to Him in
repentance and humility. Without repentance we suffer the loss of
His presence for all eternity. It is only His presence that takes
away all loneliness, rejection, angst, fear, malaise, and self
loathing.
Buddha, Mohammed and all the "isms" can't bridge
sinners to the Salvation
offered at the Cross. And neither can Science or Technology or
Modernity or Governments. They can only expect human self will to
control our evil inclinations. We cannot of our own resolve
control our self will.
Romans Chapters 7
and 8... ..
What I want to do, I don't. And what I don't want to do, that I
do Romans 7:15....
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of
this death? Romans 7:24 ......
Answer : Only Jesus.
How ?
By letinng ourselves be led of the Holy Spirit -- Romans Chapter
8 ( like the cloud in the desert ( Exodus
)
Surrendering our will on a daily basis to God's will for us.
Our self will went out of control at the time of Adam and Eve(
our stem parents) .
We were all born loving our own way
(Isaiah 53:6)
"All we like
sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own
way"
and from then on, we make ourselves God,
deciding what is right for us, whether we admit this or not.
And "every man
did what was right in his own eyes" Judges 21:25
It is only when we come to a "cross" in our life---a
time of ultimate choice between serving self or serving
God---that we make or break the reason why we are here. The
reason we are put on this earth is to seek and find Truth. If we
seek for truth 100 %, it will always, always, always end in the
Person of Jesus Christ. " I AM the Way, the Truth and the
Life "( John 14:6 )
Our acceptance of that truth births a personal relationship with
Him. Our abiding in that truth merits eternal life.
If we seek truth through religion, we will eventually pull back
the curtain, and find man- made traditions and rituals, as in the
Wizard of OZ.
But the Word, gave us His Word in the Holy Bible and His Word is
truth. John 17:17
We live out that
truth---not by religion---but through a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ.

When relatives and friends die with no particular
evidence of the "Blessed Assurance", we can look to the
cross of Christ for HOPE. The greatest lesson Jesus taught from
the cross was the lesson of last- hour forgiveness.
"In a minute there is
time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse."
From "The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock" by T. S.
Eliot
"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord
come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness,
and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall
every man have praise of God". 1 Corinthians 4:5
"Love believes all things , hopes all things...love never
fails." 1 Corinthians
13: 7, 8
"Who against hope believed in hope" Romans 4:18
God is "not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance"
2 Peter 3:9
To one side of Christ at Calvary was a thief who --even though
having committed sins of scarlet---received the mercy of Christ
and eternal life by merely looking to Him and His kingdom...by
believing and trusting in Jesus."Lord, remember me when You
come into your kingdom" Luke
23: 42
"What ??!??"..... We say.
"Why he was a no good thief, he probably did this and this
and this..etc. etc. etc. (and all the negative of one's life
pours forth)
Maybe so. But he repented with a sincere heart when he knew it
was his last chance. He meant it when he wanted Jesus. And Jesus
meant it when He said the slate would be wiped totally clean, and
the Good thief would be with Him forever..."this day thou
shalt be with me in Paradise". Luke 23:43
Such mercy ! Such love ! Such forgiveness! It is beyond our petty
minds. This world evidences no such mercy. With man it is
impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:26
"I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy." Romans 9:15
"The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth down from
heaven"

Dr. Don Whitaker tells of his life of running from God and how at
death's door he called upon God.
God answered with armloads of mercy and Dr. Whitaker began a new
regenerated life. As you listen to his testimony these words ring
deep within the soul......
"
I mean, I'm talking about His MERCY. (long pause)
Can you understand what I'm saying ? (pause)
I mean God's MERCY!......God in His unbelievable MERCY saved me
when there was absolutely nothing redeemable in me. It was only
His MERCY....
His absolute, unbelievable, unmerited MERCY !!!"

I understand now that we must tear the veil of religion and rend
our hearts instead.
Joel 2:13 and Matthew
27:51
We must abandon relics and Arks of Covenants and face the Living
God on His throne of mercy up there in heaven. And we can
enthrone Him in our hearts, if we but yield to Him.
He gave us the words in the Garden of Gethsemane...the time of
His darkest hour.
"Father
not my will but thine be done".Matt. 26:39; Mark 14:36 ;
Luke 22:42
That is the crossroads of life....my will or His.
If we persist in our own way, we die in our sins. Ezekiel 18:20-32
If we confess our sins and cry out to Him, we receive unmerited
mercy, and life everlasting in His beautiful kingdom. ( 1 John 1:9...."If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness")
Peter, after denying our Lord, repented
and accepted the mercy of God.
He then went on to live for Him.
Judas believed in self ---and when self failed, self-loathing
took over, and condemned him to death.
Repentance and remorse are not the same.
As miraculous as MERCY is , it cannot come to you (it already
came from the cross 2008 years ago).
Now we must come to MERCY.
We must ask to be bathed
in It's red blood. Then Heaven's gates are opened wide.
"He
that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out". JOHN 6:37
That is why they call this Friday, "Good". (T.S.
Eliot...4 Quartets...Burnt Norton IV)
Have you asked for His mercy [ Hebrew: "chesed";
pronounced "hesed" ] today ?
"Let us therefore come boldly
unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain MERCY,
and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16

A MESSAGE OF HOPE FROM DR. JACK VAN IMPE The Importance of Christ's Resurrection On June 18, 1815, twelve miles south of Brussels and two miles from the Belgian village of Waterloo -- largely through a series of mistakes and misunderstandings among his own leaders -- Napoleon was soundly defeated by Arthur Wellesley, better known as the Duke of Wellington. At the time of this victory, one of the strangest events in the annals of England's history took place. Without our modern means of communication, the people in those days were limited to semaphore signals. The news of Wellington's decisive victory was passed along until finally, in the last relay from a ship out in the channel, the message was passed on to receivers stationed high in the towers of Westminster Abbey. The communication stated, "Wellington defeated." When those two words were received, a heavy fog rolled across London and the message -- just as received -- was passed on to the waiting people. All of London was filled with grief and despair as strong men sobbed openly and women agonized in the streets. However, a few hours later another wind blew the fog away, and the message from the ship began again, this time adding a third word and reading, "Wellington defeated Napoleon." What a difference! The first message said, "Wellington defeated," and the fog stopped the third word. But later the message said, "Wellington defeated Napoleon." Oh, the rejoicing that took place in England when they got the third word of that message. A similar event took place at Calvary. On the
day of the crucifixion, the fog of hell seemed to roll in
with its message, "Christ defeated." That day
ended with a broken, bloody, dead Messiah and scattered,
weeping, defeated disciples. Then, three days and three
nights later, the fog was dispelled by the brightness of
glory. Special archangels from heaven descended to earth
and rolled back the stone from the empty tomb so that a
waiting world could read the entire message, "Christ
defeated Satan." Hallelujah! Christ defeated Satan. |

Jesus finished His work of redemption for
us on the cross.
Now the ball is in our court. What will we do with our salvation
?
Our "work" begins at the cross. Now it is our turn to
work the works of belief, and trust in His holy blood to atone
for our confessed daily sins.
And we are to "bring forth fruits worthy of repentance"
Luke 3:8
Jesus obtained salvation . We receive it as a free gift. We
cannot earn it.
However, it is up to us to MAINTAIN salvation--obeying the Holy
Ghost--or we can lose our salvation.
(see Hebrews 6 + Hebrews 10; and Titus 3:8 and Titus 3:14 )
We are NOT "once saved, always saved."
"You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained
you,
that you should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should REMAIN." John 15:16
