Euthanasia for teens -- March 27, 2008

Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition commented on the latest development in Belgium saying:
"Once a society has accepted the killing of one group of people for a set of circumstances then what will stop that society from accepting the killing of all groups of people for similar circumstances
If people with a certain condition have the right to end 'suffering' through euthanasia, then why would it be wrong to end the suffering for someone in a similar condition who cannot consent? In fact consent only stands in the way of providing "release of suffering" that may someday be seen as a human right
In other words. You can't have a little bit of euthanasia because if it is deemed to be a "good action" then why wouldn't it be 'good' for everyone

Supreme Court upholds assisted-suicides;
end-of-life decisions -- Jan. 17, 2006
RIGHT-TO-DIE LAW UPHELD
Tuesday's decision clears the way for other states at least to consider adopting similar measures.
"This is a watershed decision [that] reaffirms the liberty, dignity and privacy Americans cherish at the end of life," said Barbara Coombs Lee, president of Compassion in Dying, a group that sponsored the Oregon law.

The law has long prohibited suicide as well as aiding another's suicide. In 1994, however, Oregon's voters approved the Death With Dignity Act, which authorized doctors to prescribe a lethal dose of medication to dying people who requested it. Two doctors must confirm the patient is an Oregon resident who "suffers from a terminal disease" that is likely to end his or her life within six months. The doctors must confirm the patient is of sound mind.
At least 208 people have used medication to end their lives since the law took effect seven years ago

Scalia said the court should have deferred to Ashcroft.
"It is perfectly consistent with an intelligent 'design of the statute' to give the nation's chief law enforcement official, not its chief health official, broad discretion over [those who prescribe medication]," he wrote. "That is especially true where the ... judgment at issue has to do with the legitimacy of physician-assisted suicide,
which ultimately rests, not on 'science' or 'medicine,' but on a naked value judgment."

ELD End of Life Decisions ( euthanasia )

If you see the word
"palliative care", take notice. The System uses the term to mean to "alleviate" suffering without curing.
It's real application is this : the option to eventually end someone's life ..... before God has called that person home. It means to play god with life and death decisions.
It comes from the word "to cloak" or "to conceal". ( The word "occult" means the same thing.)
A "pall" cloaks, covers over or conceals a dead body.
"Pallbearers" attend a concealed dead body in a casket.

The Pied Piper

There is a seduction within "information" given to the dying patient these days .
The seduction is this : that everything will be better once a person dies.
For non-believers they are told that they will be out of pain forever.
For believers, they are told that they will be in Heaven with God.

Well, non-believers will find out that there is an eternity and an Almighty judgement after the end-of-life event. There is life beyond death. There is accountability.

Believers, having crossed over, will realize that God-- and God alone-- is the Author and Finisher of our life.
He is the Potter, we are the clay.
Jeremiah 18:1-- 6 ; Isaiah 64:8 ; Romans 9:21
End-of-life decisions are not ours to make. Only God can decide when we will pass into eternity.

"It is APPOINTED ( MOED ) unto man once to die and then the judgement." Hebrews 9:27

To take one's life into one's own hands is to express an ungratefulness for the gift of life given.
No pain of ours is beyond His enabling grace.
"
My grace is sufficient for thee ." 2 Corinthians 12:9
"My strength is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9

We are not tempted beyond what we can bear.
1 Corinthians 10: 13
"They go from strength to strength " Psalm 84: 7 .. the inner strength of endurance and forbearance
There are religious congregations endorsing eld ( end-of-life decisions ) and palliative care under the euphemism of the "paschal mystery" ... the cycle of life and death and resurrection as represented by Jesus.
But Our Lord's death was not suicide on the cross, but a humble subjection to the will of the Father, Who held His life in His hands. Jesus endured all things. His forbearing love never failed.
1 Corinthians 13.

"Not my will but thine be done." Matthew 26:39

He drank the cup of suffering to the dregs, refusing the balm to alleviate the pain.
He did not do this because he preferred pain. He did this out of obedience. Hebrews 5:8

Suffering is a part of life. Perhaps reading
Isaiah Chapters 50- 53 would give us a better understanding.

We have a Person --- Jesus of Nazareth --- to turn to in our most excruciating pain.
We can identify with His suffering and receive strength from that communion.

"Let no one take your crown from you" (Revelation 3:11 ...
When a person is so near death anyway, why interrupt the flow of grace ? Why deny that person their eternal reward ?..... especially when they are so close to receiving it. ?

"I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared
with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Romans 8:18

To rob God of the chance to connect with us in our suffering is to rob ourselves of a glorious eternity.

Testimony :
The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner
( He let God decide WHEN )

Ken was born extremely handsome and winsome on 8-18 ( August 18th ).
He was outgoing and had an " I accept you " attitude. His smile was endearing.
Ken got polio. Ken was slow-minded. Ken endured taunts at school and hardships at home.
He was placed in a home for the developmentally-disabled in his teenage years, away from his brothers and sisters. He went through his most severe trial and testing.

When older, He was placed in a group home and was given a job according to his abilities. He took great pride in his work, and he excelled at whatever he did. His attitude was sterling-silver, always loving his brothers and sisters; always accepting us no matter what twists of fate our lives took.
He was a good conversationalist and an even better listener. He was interested in every little detail we shared with him.

He never was without trials. He had epilepsy, with its' life long seizures. He needed knee-replacement surgery twice. He fought a weight problem all of his life. He had cancer of the ear, and after they removed the cancerous growth, he always appeared before people with an unshaped ear. Another humbling experience.
Ken was fully aware of his differences and his limitations in life... never to marry, never to have children.

Ken never complained.

Lately, he began to fall down more and more , and then he became dependent upon a wheel-chair. His memory--which was one of his strongest assets-- began to fail him too. Through it all he never lost his faith and trust and dependence upon God. That was unshakable.
The rock, leaning upon
the Rock.
He laid his burden on the Lord. He connected with the cross of Christ .

His entire life was tried in the fire, and he came out pure gold.
Ken died peacefully in his sleep a short time ago at the age of 74.

His line in the sand was this :
"I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Romans 8:18 ( the same numbers as his birthdate )

Ken is now in all of his radiant glory, full of joy and happiness. He is now whole.
How we all love and miss him so .

Euthanasia for CHILDREN

Children encouraged to make their own end-of-life decisions -- Nov. 20, 2005
"even as young as age seven" ABC World News on TV
Samantha is not unusual. Researchers at St. Jude say even very young children can understand and participate in difficult end-of-life decisions.
Samantha, for example, has agreed to try an experimental chemotherapy drug, even though she knows it will not cure her.
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Health/story?id=1331236

Interview:
Some children as young as 9 make plans. They make a little will, or they want to give certain favored possessions to a brother or sister or friend. Sometimes children worry, what will happen to my family afterward? And one of the things a family can do is to say, you will always be part of our family. We will always be a family together.
Because children are not adults, they cannot advocate for themselves. They need the best treatment possible. If they're dying, they need the best palliative care. They need to be made comfortable. The role of a parent is to do that yourself or, if you're unable to do it, to find someone to do that.

Euthanasia for Babies :

Netherlands

AMSTERDAM, Nov 29 (Reuters) - The Netherlands is setting up a commission to regulate the practice of ending the lives of "seriously suffering" newborn babies, the government said on Tuesday,
in a move critics say could allow more euthanasia.
Euthanasia of newborns and late abortions remain illegal, but the commission -- composed of three doctors, a lawyer and a ethicist -- is likely to recommend that doctors who follow certain rules are not charged in concrete cases.
In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to legalise adult euthanasia, a move condemned by the Roman Catholic Church, but has since been followed by Belgium, while other European states are investigating allowing it.

Bert Dorenbos, from anti-euthanasia group Scream for Life, said the commission would effectively allow more euthanasia.
"It is a very dangerous and tragic development," he said. "It means that doctors will have a freer hand as to whether to end the life of a child or not. It is a slippery slope."

The ministers want the commission to work on the basis of similar criteria, allowing euthanasia or late abortion if the baby had no chance of survival and was suffering unbearably, if the doctor consulted at least one other, the parents agreed and the life was ended in the correct medical way

"You are trained to save the life of a child but with these children the suffering can only be stopped by ending their lives. It takes courage to do that"-- Eduard Verhagen

[ Ed: Verhagen Newspeak: Hippocratic vs. Hypocrisy
This is not courage; it is cowardice, choosing not to work with that child.
It takes real courage and strength to work with that child, who has as much a right to life as anyone else.
Euthanasia is ethical and medical laziness.
Expediency is the real issue here. These are doctors who want to play God, and they want to make life-and-death decisions.
Doctors are mere mortal men who must face the Judge who gave Life to these newborns for a reason and a purpose.

Praise God for the good Doctors who try to maintain life, no matter what. They are true to their Hippocratic Oath.

Scream for Life
The same line of reasoning is being used as in Germany in 1935...In the Netherlands, your life is no longer safe," said
Bert Dorenbos of the Dutch pro-life group Scream for Life. "If doctors are not hesitating to kill people then they will not hesitate to withdraw medical treatment from people they do not like," he added

Switzerland, Colombia and Belgium tolerate euthanasia. Australia's Northern Territory approved the practice in 1996, but the federal Parliament revoked the law in 1997. Others, such as Denmark and Singapore, Canada and Australia, give patients the right to refuse life-prolonging treatment.

In Oregon, voters approved assisted suicide for the terminally ill in 1994. Since the law took affect in 1997, 43 people have died in assisted suicides there. The House of Representatives passed a pro-life bill, the Pain Relief Promotion Act, in October that would restrict assisted suicides, but it faces a possible veto.
In assisted suicides, the patient administers a lethal dose of medication to himself or herself. Under the new Dutch euthanasia law, a doctor may give it directly to the patient.

Opponents in the Dutch parliament denounced the bill, saying
it challenges God's will by giving doctors the power to decide over life and death.
"This a black day in the history of our Parliament," said lawmaker Bas van der Vlies of the State Reform Party SGP.
"We believe as Christians that our lives are not in our hands, that we cannot ourselves decide.
We must wait for God's leadership.
"

The first problem this law poses is a very serious question of conscience, which doctors will have to face up to," Navarro-Valls explained. "Again, we are faced with a law of the state which opposes
the natural law of human conscience
." He said the Dutch law went against international declarations on medical ethics that had been adopted for years by the medical community.

"It's cheaper to kill people than to take care of them," scoffed Lori Hougens of the Washington-based National Right to Life Committee, adding: "We are very, very saddened" by the law. "It could have a terrible impact around the world. When you tell people it's OK, it can change them," she said.

But the bill does not stipulate that the patient's suffering must be physical, and it also does not require the patient's disease be terminal. Pro-life advocates say these open up wide loopholes for abuse
[ Ed : yes, you can kill people for political correctness, the mentally disabled, emotionally disabled; any illness in general ]

"By making this choice, the Dutch parliament has opened a breach in the political and social order of the countries of the European Union and in other places where the issue is still being considered," [ Father Gino ] Concetti noted. Catholic Church canon (law) 2,278 says extraordinary, costly and dangerous life-support systems for a terminally ill person can be discontinued at the patient's or family's request, but actively ending a life is always morally unacceptable.

But Rita Marker, executive director of the International Anti-Euthanasia Task Force, said the law would send a dangerous signal. "It will be like giving the household seal of approval. What is currently a crime will be transformed into medical treatment," Marker said.

Patients as young as 16 can seek euthanasia in consultation with their parents, and children aged 12-15 must have parental consent, the Justice Ministry said.

MARY -- A Transcendent Candle
The Power of Presence

Mary was born mentally retarded from birth. She has lived now 62 years without ever having had a conversation.
Why was she born, and why do we keep her alive ?
Mary was born to fulfill a plan and a purpose known only to God. We will find out that answer in eternity, and it will more than satisfy.

Why do we keep her alive ? Because Mary is a candescent candle in our lives, ever reminding us of the power of presence. Her presence--- in the back of our minds --- keeps us compassionate in a world turning colder and colder each day. Our world is becoming more and more pragmatic and utilitarian. Our society uses people, instead of appreciating people.

Society in 2006 is a work-orientated "productive" society. Produce or die. It has no time for what Hitler called
"useless eaters" ..... the elderly, the handicapped, the disadvantaged, the mentally retarded.

But it is these disadvantaged in this world that keeps the advantaged from going over the line into Barbarism.

It is the powerful presence of
these silent ones that reminds us all that there is a God in Heaven, and we see Him through the eyes of Faith.

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" --Hebrews 11:1

Our beautiful candle-Mary sheds light on the darkening heart that wants to walk according to the aggressive ways of this world. Our Mary's glow reminds us to fix our minds on the things that are above and not below.
Colossians 3: 1, 2

Our Mary glows against the black background of hate, prejudice and rejection.
When the day comes that society wants to rid themselves of God, they will also rid themselves of the disadvantaged....
those dear candles that remind us of God and the transcendent world.
May that day never come.

Our Mary is greatly loved, and we will know her more fully in the real world that never passes away. We can wait.

" A presence is never mute" -- Unknown

"We are , all of us, molded and remolded by those we love.
And even though that love may be eclipsed,
we remain none the less their work-- a work they hardly even recognize.
No love, no friendship, can ever cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark upon us forever."

Francois Mauriac " The Desert of Love" ...paraphrased

The powerful power of the Power of Attorney ( abuse of power ? )

Shocked by "caregivers" ...the "spirit of death "
"One thing that has shocked me throughout this ordeal is the number of health-care 'professionals'
that seem to major on killing rather than healing," Deanna Potter told WND. "It's truly frightening to think that these are people charged with overseeing health care for very old and very sick human beings"
There must be a spirit of death that overtakes people's minds. I just don't understand it at all."
According to Potter, many of her father's caregivers also appeared driven to end his life

He sees a utilitarian flavor of secular bioethics permeating decision making and actual practice within the medical community.
"The medical system is not so interested as it used to be on caring for the medically complex patients. They're dumping them into hospice rather than maintaining them and trying to save them," Panzer told WND.
"The utilitarian approach is,
'Well, you're using too many dollars. You're too expensive to care for. ... You're better off dead."

A recent national survey found nearly two-thirds of physicians support physician-assisted suicide. ...
The attitude shift from always treating medically complex patients to embracing and, often, hastening their deaths also comes as a result of a decade-long campaign by leaders in the hospice industry and right-to-die advocates, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and George Soros' Project on Death in America.
As WorldNetDaily reported, Soros's PDIA and the RWJF invested nearly $200 million throughout the 1990s with the goal of "transforming the culture of dying

The initiative to promote palliative care and utilization of hospice succeeded in altering medical textbooks and curricula at medical and nursing schools across the country, as well as changing state laws to recognize and enforce the use of advance directives and DNRs

The "third path" involves hastening death through the removal of life-sustaining medical procedures and treatment – including assisted feeding, antibiotics and oral hydration and nutrition – accompanied by heavy, and sometimes terminal, sedation. While it may be appropriate for terminally ill patients suffering intractable physical pain and in the end stage of disease, Panzer and other critics view this "third path" as a backdoor to euthanasia for non-terminal individuals, like Terri Schiavo

Hospices, Reiki and eld -- Nov. 20, 2005
Referrals to hospice do not need to be made by physicians. A neighbor, friend or family member can call.
[ Ed: what motive ? ] When someone is referred to hospice, they are looked at by a team of professionals. This team includes, doctors, nurses, home care aides, grief counselors, clergy, volunteers and even alternative therapy professionals, such as Reiki and massage therapists.
[ Ed. please see :
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/cam.html ]
The patient's physical, psychological, spiritual, social, emotional and financial situations are taken into account so that hospice can come up with a treatment plan and start working on bereavement with the family.
Carol Mahier, director of Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, describes the hospice role as providing patients with a better way to die, "to end as best as possible, to wrap up your affairs, to say your 'I-love-yous,' to say your good-byes, to finish your work."

Hospice also provides care for people in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and those who choose to live alone.
This is where hospice steps up to the plate, to deal with terminal illness that conventional medicine seems unequipped to handle.

Euthanasia and Katrina
" I'm going to give you something to make you feel better," King overheard a physician say. When it was suggested prayers be said, he bolted from the room, not wishing to be a part of what he thought was about to take place.
"However, if those [injections] were given for the purpose of killing the patient, then you have cases of involuntary euthanasia. And whether done supposedly out of altruistic motives or not, then that would certainly be homicide
Marker pointed out the so-called "double effect," whereby physician-administered painkillers kill the patient along with the pain, has been accepted in law and ethics for centuries.

Singer, a strict utilitarian and the man the New York Times called the “greatest living philosopher,” says, “By 2040, it may be that only a rump of hard-core, know-nothing religious fundamentalists will defend the view that every human life, from conception to death, is sacrosanct.”
The title, “The Sanctity of Life,” can only be meant as ironic coming from a man who has made his fame advocating abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, infanticide up to thirty days after birth and euthanasia for the elderly and infirm.
