God has planned -- long ago -- that
Autumn be a time of a time of deep reverence, a time of drinking
in the beauty of His Creation. As the days get shorter and
daylight diminishes, it seems an appropriate time for
soul-searching and longing after God.
" ALL SOULS ARE MINE
" -- Ezekiel 18:4
The season of
"Teshuvah", 40 days is a time of introspection /
repentance /and returning to God.
Psalm 139:23, 24
"Search me, O God , and
know my heart: try me and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the Way,
everlasting."
"Teshuvah" means "to return".
These 40 days include the Hebrew month of Elul (30
days), plus the 10 days of Awe
(Rosh HaShana to Yom Kippur).
The 10 days of Awe are the first 10 days of the following month,
Tishri.
Together, 30 days of Elul and 10 days of Tishri, equals 40 days.
Please read Ezekiel 18:20-32 to
better understand the Spirit of the season. [ personal accountability ] ....
"When a righteous man
turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and
dieth in them;
for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that
he hath committed,
and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul
alive.
Because he considereth, and turneth away
from all his transgressions that he hath committed,
he shall surely live, he shall not die." [ in his sins ].
Our spiritual life is ever dynamic, always changing. We are
either pressing forward, or sliding backward.
There is no middle ground. Both our past achievements and our
past confessed sins do not count. Today is what matters.
Today we are either righteous or unrighteous.
TODAY we must turn from our idols ( misplaced priorities) to
serve the Living God.
( Acts 14:15
; Acts 26:18, 20 ; Ezekiel 14:6 )
ELUL
a time of approaching God
( 'Elul' is the abbreviation
of the phrase
"I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine"
..
Canticle of Canticles 6:3 + 2:16 ).
The Hebrew month of Elul is the 30 days in Fall before the new liturgical
year which begins with Rosh HaShana
the Feast of
Trumpets.
"Rosh" means "head" and HaShana
"year"; "the head of the year", the New Year.
The trumpets herald the gravity of this time.
Please read the following

Teshuvah
... to return, to repent
This year, 2008, Elul begins on the Sunday evening of August
31st. It is a time of great mental sobriety.
A trumpet blast is sounded in Israel, and other places. It is
sounded each week-day morning (work days) all month long as a
call to awaken the soul out of its complacency, and to enter into
greater depths of realizations.
The time for "Reality versus Rationalizations" begins.
Each day we ask God for moments of clarity to see ourselves as we
really are
faults and all.
We ask to be delivered from the bondage of self.
Only the rigorously-honest enter into the most holy place of
Truth.

PSALM 27
All during the month of Elul,
Psalm 27
is recited in the morning and
in the afternoon:
"The LORD is my Light ( Ohr ) and my salvation ( HoShanna
)".
Actually, Psalm 27 is recited until the 22nd day of Tishri,
called "Shemini Atzeret"
(the end of 'Succoth ', which we will discuss in another article.)
As God reveals more and more of ourselves to us, we ask for His
forgiveness for our faults.
"With the merciful, Thou wilt show Thyself merciful" II Samuel 22:26 + Psalm 18:25, 26
We ask for the forthrightness
to make amends. We clear the slate.
Thus our souls pass before His Judgement Seat, as it were, on
Rosh HaShana hoping that our names become inscribed in His Book
of Life for one more year.
"I
will show mercy on whom I will show mercy" Exodus 33:19

GOD IS LIGHT.....
September 25th, 2008 ( also
25th day of Elul) ............"Thou art my
Light"--Psalm 27
According to the Hebrew
sages, the 25th
day of Elul, commemorates the first day of Creation, when God created Light "Ohr"
(Genesis 1:3; John 8:12 ;
John 9: 5 ) . This was not the light of the sun (created on the
fourth day) , but the very presence of God emanating throughout
His universe ; His countenance , His Shekinah
glory. .. "and it was good"
http://www.hope-of-israel.org/glory.htm by John D.
Keyser
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=588&letter=S
John 1:9
reveals that Jesus is the Light that enlighteneth every
man that cometh into the world.
That light is shown in one's conscience. Every man has a
conscience, whether he heeds it or not.
Shekinah Presence and Glory : Revelation 21:23 ; Revelation 22 : 5
Genesis-Creation , when God said : "Let there be
light".
That beginning of creation is honored on Thursday the 25th of
September , 2008.
We "worship Him Who made Heaven and earth, and the sea, and
the fountains of waters."
Revelation/Apocalypse. 14:7.
"Thou art worthy, O
Lord, to receive glory and honor and power:
for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are
and were created" Revelation 4:11
Jesus is the Creator: John 1:3 "
"All things were made by Him; and without Him was not
anything made that was made."
( 1 Corinthians. 8:6; and Colossians 1:16, 17; and 1 John 1:2)
"Praise ye the LORD,
from the heavens, in the heights...all His angelic host. The sun,
moon and stars of light, praise Him. Praise Him ye heaven of
heavens, and the waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the LORD;
for He commanded and
they were created." Psalm 148:1-5
Psalm 33: 6 and 9 :
"By the word of the LORD were the heavens made ;
and all the hosts of them [ moon, sun, stars, planets,
earth ] by the breath of His mouth. ...
For He spake and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast."
We now leave the month of Elul, and come to the month of Tishrei...the new civil year
MADE IN THE IMAGE OF
GOD.....Rosh Hashana
Six days later, according to the Hebrew scholars, Adam
was fashioned from the hand of God on Rosh HaShana, the beginning
of the year. In other words, man was created on Rosh HaShana
5,769 years ago. For this year---2008--- that would be
commemorated on
Tuesday the 30th of September, 2008.
Thus the creation of man-- and this holy day commemorating our
annual judgement-review before God-- are both recalled on the
same day, Rosh HaShana.
Since Rosh Hashana is celebrated on an evening plus two days
(yoma arichta), that would also include Monday evening, Tuesday
and Wednesday
October 1, 2008.
The creation of the first Adam is commemorated on Day 1 of Rosh
Hashana. Our Second Adam --Jesus Christ YESHUA, Who is the Son of
Man and our KING of KINGS ) is also to be commemorated. Please
see 1 Corinthians 15:22 ... and 1 Corinthians 15:45.
KING of Kings and LORD of Lords -- Rev. 19:16
BRING FORTH THE ROYAL
DIADEM
The sages tell us that the first words Adam spoke were:
"The Lord is KING forever and ever ".
Thus Christ as King, "HaMelech", is observed on Rosh
Hashana.

Ed. comment on the above -- We believe that the
"last trump" in Scripture has a double interpretation :
1) meaning the 7th trumpet of Rev. 11 ( our Rapture ) and also
2. the grand
finale when Jesus arrives at the Mt. of Olives to
enter His Jerusalem [Zecariah 14:4]
( the resurrection of the Just, after the Battle in the Valley of
Megeddo.

OPENING OF THE HEAVENLY
GATES
Rosh HaShana begins
on Monday evening September 29th and continues into Tuesday Sept.
30th and Wednesday Oct. 1 of this year ( 2008 ).
Rosh Hoshanna is also called "Yom Teruah"...the day of the
Blowing of the Trumpets.
http://oncedelivered.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/jesus-in-the-feasts-of-israel-trumpets-rosh-hashanah/
http://www.elisabethsyreministries.net/biblestudies/theshofar/index.php
The shofar [ram's horn] is
blown 100 times at this time.
This signifies that Heaven's Gates are open wide. The King sits
at Court.
The scepter of grace and mercy are extended in a special way at
this time and all throughout the next 10 days.
This also commemorates Resurrection Day (the Last Day) when all
souls must appear before God.
Zechariah 14:6,7 ;and Daniel 12:12; and Joel 3:12;and John 11:24.
Yom Teruah, the
blowing of the trumpets, is a 48+ hours celebration... one long day
("yoma arichta".)
(Greg Killian) The
Watchman ... http://www.betemunah.org/teruah.html#_Toc201412033
"Yom Teruah is always celebrated for two days, even in Israel These
two days are celebrated as though it is just
one long day of forty-nine hours....
These days of Yom Teruah are called yoma
arichta (one long day) to indicate that
the sanctity of both is not a doubtful sanctity, but a definite
one. "http://www.betemunah.org/teruah.html (
see "Calendar arrangement")
High Holy Days on
the Net www.holidays.net/highholydays/rosh.htm

The Tekiah Gedolah....the long blast
After 99 blasts of the shofar, the final blast
is the loudest and the longest. It has a special name. It is
called the "Tekiah
Gedolah".
Although we authors do NOT see this Holy Day to be that of the
Rapture, we authors do see that this trumpet-sound signifies ( is an example of) the trumpet sounded in 1Thessalonians 4:16...
"For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the
( Tekiah Gedolah ) trump of
God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first"
We believe this signifies the "Day of Christ ( the Day of Messiah )" The word "CHRIST " is
mentioned here ONLY in the Authorized KJV Bible in 2 Thessalonians 2:2
(This Biblical "Day of Christ" refers to the 2 day-
event ("yoma arichta") of the Resurrection/Rapture, with
the long trumpet blast lasting longer than one day No one knows
when that long day is. We will know only the season, until it is
revealed. 1
Thessalonians 5:3
" Rosh Hashanah is the only
festive holiday celebrated for two consecutive days in
the Land of Israel. During the two days, Jews in Israel and
abroad will spend the majority of their time in community
synagogues, engulfed in prayer and repentance." -- Arutz
Sheva September 22, 2006
This trumpet on Rosh HaShana signifies our Rapture; it does not
date it.
The Rapture itself is a "Hidden Day "...unknown to
anyone... occurring whenever the Father so decides.
In other words, this
long blast --- we believe --- will ALSO occur on the "Day of
Christ" ( our Rapture ) , and that day is not
necessarily Rosh HaShana. It is
best not to date the rapture, since so many failed attempts brings about
skepticism.
Best to believe what Jesus said :
"No man knows the day nor the hour."
Symbolism (trumpet-blowing) is symbolism. It is not date setting.
Please see "The
Seventh Trumpet"
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/trumpet.html
( "Tekiah
Gedolah" is not to be confused with
"the Last Trump" of 1 Corinthians 15:52, which is the
(Shofar HaGadol) which we will explain in the
"Yom Kippur" section of this article, Elul, part 2.
"Tekiah Gedolah" and "Shofar HaGadol" are 2
different trumpet sounds, with 2 very different meanings.
They are both a "last trump"...but LAST on two different
occasions.
Tekiah Gedolah is a last trumpet in a series of 7 trumpets. (please see Rev. 8 through 11) and is the Church's Homecoming , so we believe.
Shofar HaGadol is THE last trumpet of Yom Kippur and possibly
signifies the end of the Great Tribulation period. Matthew 24:31
"And He shall send His angels with a GREAT SOUND of a
Trumpet". This is a call to return to the land of Israel (Isaiah 27:13) and is at the time of our Lord's RETURN to earth to
establish His millennial kingdom of 1,000 years from Jerusalem,
Israel.. This Shofar
Ha'Gadol will bring forth God's elect from both heaven and
from earth to begin the Millennial Kingdom, with Jesus
Christ as King ... Mark 13:27

"Yom
HaDin....Day of Judgement"...Day of Reckoning
BEMA SEAT...the
great White Throne Judgement
"He (God) hath appointed a day (moed), in the which He will
judge the world"
Acts 17:29-31
"It is appointed (mo'ed)
unto men once to die, but after this the judgement." Hebrews 9:27
The blowing of the trumpets
on Rosh Hashana signifies not only Resurrection, but it also
serves as a wake-up call to the coming Judgement Day ("Yom
HaDin")....the day of Reckoning.
This day is pictured for us in Revelation 20:11
"And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it,
from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was
found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the
books were opened:
and another book was opened, which is The Book of LIFE:
And the dead were judged out of those things which were written
in the books, according to their works.... (v.13)
"and they were judged every man according to his
works".
"(v.15) "and whosoever was not found written in
the book of LIFE was cast into the
Lake of Fire".
The Judgement Seat of Christ
Those who have trusted in the
Blood of Jesus Christ, and lived and died accordingly, have
already been resurrected unto Eternal Life. They do not appear in
this Bema Seat Judgement scene.
However, Believers DO appear at "the judgement seat of
Christ."

By tradition, this is the prayer recited by the Jewish people on Rosh
HaShanah:
"We will celebrate the solemn holiness of this day, how
awesome and fearsome it is.
On this day your rulership is lifted up, your throne is
established in mercy,
and you sit upon it in truth. Truly you alone are Judge, arbiter,
discerner, witness, recorder, sealer, inscriber, and reckoner;
and you remember all forgotten deeds.
You open the book of records and it reads itself, and everyone's
signature is there.
"The great shofar is sounded, the still small voice is
heard, and the angels tremble with fear as they proclaim,
'Behold! The Day of Judgement!'
Even the armies of heaven are to be brought to judgement, for in
your sight even they are not innocent. You cause all who come
into the world to pass before you like a flock of sheep. Like a
shepherd seeking out his flock and causing them to pass under His
staff, you cause every living soul to pass before You;
You count, reckon and review every creature,
determining its lifetime and inscribing its destiny.
"On Rosh HaShana it is inscribed, and on Yom Kippur it is
sealed:
how many will pass away and how many will be born,
who will live, and who will die; who will die prematurely and who
will live out his days; who will perish by fire and who by water;
who by sword and who by wild animals;
who by hunger and who by thirst; who by earthquake and who by
plague;
who by strangling and who by stoning; who will have rest and who
will wander about;
who will be at peace and who will be tormented;
who will be at ease and who will be bothered;
who will become poor and who will become rich;
who will be brought low and who will be raised up.
But repentance, prayer and charity avert the harsh decree."
From Jewish New Testament
Commentary by David Stern
(This is not Biblical text.
Yet it serves to remind us that nothing happens by accident---it
is all a part of the mysteries of God)
One main ingredient is missing in this prayer , and that is the
atoning blood of Yeshua.

own blood." Rev. 1:5

When Yesterday
becomes Today
There seems to be a great disparity in what is perceived by the
Believer, and what is perceived by the secular humanist. The
Believer lives in the presence of God, continually accountable to
Him..... "before whom I stand", as Elijah put it.
The non-believer is deluded by intervals of time........"
"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed
speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in
them to do evil." Ecclesiastes 8:11
In other words, because
lightening doesn't strike us each time we sin, we think we're
getting by with it. What folly. What a delusion. They "will
wake as from a dream of things that never were."Psalm 73,
Living Bible)
The Living Bible says it this
way,
"Because God does not
punish sinners instantly, people feel it is safe to do wrong. But
though a man sins 100 times and still lives, I know very well
that those who fear God will be better off" (Ecclesiastes
8:11)
How grateful the Believer is to have an awareness of the
accountability of sin. How thankful we should be for our precious
Hebrew heritage demonstrating to us the awesome holiness of God.
THE BOOK OF LIFE
The traditional greeting on Rosh HaShana is, "May you be
inscribed in the Book Life"
www.lookup.org/bookoflife.htm
God has 5
Books
.. (God also has a bottle of our tears : Psalm 56:8)
1. One Book is of Judgement [Daniel 7:10 and Rev.19:8+ 20:12
our
works]
Our works cannot save us ,
but they do have merit before God and pertain to our state in
glory.
( Rev. 14:13
and 2 Corinthians 3:18) Righteousness counts !
By Dan Corner http://www.evangelicaloutreach.org/goodworks.htm
"Faith without works is
dead" James 2:17
2. Another is the Book of the Law [Dueteronomy. 31:26 , and Galatians 3:10].
3. God also has a Book of Remembrance ( our conversations)
Matthew 12:36, 37 :
"But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall
speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou
shalt be condemned."
Also see Proverbs 13:3.
The Hebrew people put great emphasis on one's spoken words. The
gossiping tongue is particularly disdained (see James 3:6 "the tongue is a fire, a
world of iniquity")
From David Wadleigh:
www.cybertime.net/~ajgood/mouth.html

"Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue
of the wise brings healing.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a
moment. Proverbs
12:18-20 (NIV)
Excuses like
"I didnt mean it," "I was just trying to be
funny," "But, thats me," and
"People cant be so sensitive," are not good for
us who are Believers.
" Am I one who needs frequent reminders of the need for
controlling the tongue ?
Is it to say less ( no gainsaying) , or not say it at all?
How do I deliberately choose my words to bring healing to
someone?
Are my words genuine, praising and encouraging? From Dr.
Jeff Lee
Isaiah said. "Woe is me !.. I am a man of unclean
lips". The Lord then had an angel put a live coal to
Isaiah's mouth. We believe that this was the live coal
>>> Click here.
Since all of the Law ( Torah) is covered under "Love thy God
and thy neighbor as thyself"( Matthew 22:40),
then to control the tongue is equal to obeying the 613, as we see
it.
"Yom
HaZikkaron" means "Day of Remembrance" and refers to Rosh HaShana wherein God
Remembers those that fear Him.
We are to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12
God also remembers those who
converse about Him:
"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another:
and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a Book of Remembrance
was written before Him for them that feared the LORD, and that
thought upon His name".
"And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that
day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man
spareth his own son that serveth him." Malachi 3:16,17.
4. Then there is the Book of LIFE (permission to keep on living)
Exodus 32: 32, 33 and Psalm 69:28; and Daniel 12:1; and Philippians 4:3; and
Revelation 3:5; and Rev. 17:8;
and Rev. 20:12;

Lamb, for Salvation. (Life Eternal
"in heaven")
Rev. 13: 8
and Rev. 21:27
."in
heaven" Luke 10:20;
and Hebrew 12:23; and Luke 15:7.
This is the realization that
we cannot save ourselves. We are not gods. We can never arrive at
perfection in this earthly lifetime. We are and always will be
sinners, while in these earthly "tents".
"All have sinned and have come short of the glory of
God" Romans 3:23
"If we say that we have
no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1: 8, 9.
We are in need of the redemptive Blood of Jesus to cover our
sins. His blood is most precious.
1 Peter 18, 19--
"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with
corruptible things, as silver and gold....but with the precious
blood of Messiah-Christ (Jesus), as of a lamb without blemish and
without spot."

As each soul comes before God
in review, hopefully He inscribes our name in the Book of Life ,
Eternal Life.
3 REGISTERS
According to Jewish tradition, God opens 3 registers:
A. The Book of the Righteous
(names of those who have returned to Him through sorrowful
contrition). This is the main book.
The rest of mankind is divided into 2 other categories:
B. The Book of the Rashim (names of the unrighteous)
C. Then there are the indeterminate, who in the next 10 days will
either be ascribed either to the Righteous Book, or to the
Unrighteous Book, depending upon repentance.
Desiring to tip the balances in our favor, we "redeem the
time" in the 10 days that are left after Rosh HaShana to get
right with God and our fellow man, ( we make amends) before our
names are Sealed, on Yom Kippur.
OUR SCHOOLMASTER --- Galatians 3:21-29
We must keep in mind that this is a formalized concept. This is
how religion parallels, but cannot duplicate, the Born Again
experience. This is a dramatized teaching lesson.
The true application is having a personal relationship with
Jesus, which is active and dynamic daily. Our interpersonal
relationship with Jesus has its more righteous moments, and our
not-so-righteous moments (sins). But the phone line is open 7 /
24...7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We hot-line it to heaven,
when we miss the mark. We ask for His forgiveness and guidance.
We avoid areas of temptation
(" can a man hold fire to his chest and not be burned?" Proverbs
6:27, 28 ).
We keep short accounts. It is
a daily interfacing. We need not wait yearly to 'get right with
God'.
Having said all this, this formalized concept seems to be needed
for our finite minds to grasp the importance of keeping 'static'
from our communication line with God.
We seem to need this accentuated statement to perceive how
awesome our Judge is:
"Behold! The Judge standeth before the door! "James 5:9
By nature, we are inclined to readily excuse ourselves from
holiness.
OUR EXAMPLE
Our Lord took the concept of reflection very seriously. He went
off for 40 days of introspection and prayer just before His
public ministry. It was not necessary for Jesus to do this in the
sense of 'returning' to God. It was His special kindness, in
order to give us an example of taking out quality time for God.

3:15 )
FAST OF GEDALIAH ..........TISHRI 4
Thursday, October 2, 2008
This fast day during the Days of Awe commemorates the
assassination of the governor
(Gedaliah) over Israel after the Babylonian Captivity. The
account is in Jeremiah Chapters 40 and 41.
Self-deceived
(positive thinking)
This murder need not have taken place for Gedaliah was strongly
warned of an attempt upon his life. He refused to heed the
warning. He had to pay the consequences of believing in
"positive thinking".
General George S. Patton of WW 2 fame ( 5-star General), claimed
that most of his victories were due to the fact that he studied his enemy. He was not ignorant of his devices.

Heeding the relevant-example
given to us by the fall of Gedaliah:
While it is proper to look for Jesus Christ, it is also necessary
to look for antichrist and his 666 economic system that is coming
upon the whole world.
God kept Gideon's 300 who
kept an eye on the enemy, while drinking
from the Word.
Judges 7:6
General Patton--- the greatest 5 star general of our times-- said
he studied the enemy well in order to prepare for victory.
He knew them, and he named them, and he got the victory.
About General George S.
Patton:
"and concentrated on studying his enemy"

"The Roman Consul, Scipio, studied Hannibal's tactics
[ the enemy ] to
finally defeat him at Zama (Horns were blown to scare the
charging elephants into retreat, causing havoc in the advancing
Carthaginian lines.)
Patton studied Rommel's book and tactics [
the enemy ] to defeat his Panzer battalion in North
Africa."

"By the
time World War II erupted, Patton was tactically primed and
ready. As Sun Tzu instructedKnow the enemy and know
yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in
perilPatton studied his adversaries and their tactics
as a matter of course. He maintained his study of the enemy
during the conduct of campaigns. "

______________
We too have a mortal enemy, Satan, who goes about roaring like a
lion seeking whom he may devour (kill)...
1 Peter 5: 8,9. He has come to lie, steal, destroy and kill
( John 8:44
and John 10:10).
We too are not to be ignorant of his devices ( 2 Corinthians 2:11). We are to put on the whole armor of God .
( Ephesians 6:10-18 )
Fasting ( self control) leads to a greater awareness. Isaiah 58:6
Are we aware of the pitfalls in our life? Do we flirt with
temptation? Can a person hold fire close and not be burned? (
Proverbs 6: 27,28 )
Do we fight the good fight (1 Timothy 6:12), resisting Satan so that he will flee ( James 4:7
) ?
Or does he have our Achilles'
heel?
