Federal Monitoring with
Digital Angel --
Targeting government as lucrative market has long been a
strategy of Applied Digital and its subsidiaries. Most
recently, in September of 2003, ADS retained the services of Stanley
L. Reid, to market VeriChip implants
to federal agencies.
While Applied's Digital Angel works to promote
its animal tracking technology to the government, and ADS
subsidiary Government
Telecommunications Inc continues to score federal contracts,
Reid is promoting VeriChip as a way to control authorized
access to government installations and private-sector buildings.
Included in the marketing campaign are nuclear power plants,
national research laboratories, airports and seaports.
ADS representatives tout VeriChip as a stand-alone,
"tamper-proof" personal verification technology which
can also form an elemental part of a multi-faceted approach to
security which could include the use of standard ID badges, smart
cards and advanced biometric devices .

Frank Lalley,
Sales ... GSA veteran ......Sherrie Gossett
Without question, Applied Digital
Solutions sees its best customer as the government. And
to head up this major government sales
effort, ADS has appointed Frank Lalley, a
35-year General Services Administration veteran, as vice
president of the just-created "government solutions"
organization.
"The new position is aimed at meeting government
needs for the company's advanced technology products, such as
VeriChip, Thermo Life and Digital Angel, which is now part of
Digital Angel Corporation (Amex: DOC)," according to ADS.
(Thermo Life is a miniaturized power source consisting of a
thermoelectric generator powered by body heat.)
Lalley's most recent position with the federal government was
as assistant commissioner for service delivery in the GSA's Federal
Technology Service. In that position, he was the
senior executive responsible for the federal government's $1
billion long-distance telecommunications
program, which provides voice, data,
video, wireless and satellite services to 165 government agencies
around the world.
Lalley also served as former associate deputy assistant secretary
for telecommunications at the Veterans Affairs
Department, chairman of the Interagency
Management Council and head of the Service
Delivery Office. He has also been employed in the
departments of Energy and Defense.
Commenting on Lalley's appointment, Silverman, Applied
Digital's president, said: "With the attention that
VeriChip, Digital Angel and Thermo Life
have attracted from all levels of government, it was imperative
to bring in someone with Frank Lalley's extensive experience and
reputation for effective leadership in the public sector. His
knowledge, expertise and vast network of governmental contacts
will help enormously as we respond to the needs of various
government agencies for our advanced technology solutions.
We're delighted that Frank has agreed to take on this added
responsibility and we're confident that this expansion of his
role within Applied Digital will help us seize significant growth
opportunities in the public sector."

Recently, the US General Services Administration (GSA),
the authority that influences Federal Government spending,
entered into a five-year contract with USA Technologies for all
of USA Technologies' energy management products. The contract
means all Federal Government authorities, agencies and facilities
worldwide now have the ability to purchase the Company's
VendingMiserŪ, CoolerMiser(TM), PlugMiser(TM) and SnackMiser(TM)
immediately, and directly from USA Technologies. USA Technologies
believes that the contract should accelerate the Federal sector's
purchasing ability, and should lead to an upswing in sales to
Federal institutions.

Digital Security, IT
security of the virtual world --Nov. 20, 2003
Mr. Silverman to
speak at ID World Congress
ID World is organized by Wise
Media, S.p.A., based in Milan, Italy.
This year special attention will be given to the future of
security systems. The modern security infrastructure relies
on specialized systems, software applications and technical
standards built on different foundations for the physical world
(i.e. access control to buildings) and the virtual
world (i.e. IT security).
With industrial spies, terrorists, hackers and vandals increasing
their ability to operate in both environments, the traditional
compartmental approach to security is evolving towards an
increasingly holistic view. Key industry players that
traditionally focused either on physical or digital
security explain how the boundaries of these worlds are
blurring and how global security infrastructures are converging
to address both environments with integrated solutions.
Over 30 speakers will take the stage at ID WORLD 2003, a
majority of which are senior corporate executives and key
industry players. Confirmed speakers include: David Slinger,
General Manager of
Texas Instruments RFID; Mauro Benetton,
Marketing Manager of the Benetton Group and President of
Lab ID; Dr Joseph Atick, President and CEO of Identix,
Joseph Grillo, President and CEO of Assa Abloy ITG;
General John Watkins, former director of the Pentagon's
Defense Information Systems Agency; and Francois Darcy,
Directeur Projet Titre Fondateur - Ministere de l'Interieur,
Republique Francaise.

chip firm seeks financial 'angel' ...Sherrie

Maker of
human tracking devices wants government deal to save it May
16-2002
Without
question, Applied
Digital Solutions sees its best customer as the government. And to head up this major
government sales effort, ADS has appointed Frank Lalley, a
35-year General Services Administration veteran, as vice
president of the just-created "government solutions"
organization.
Your tax dollars at work?
What uses does ADS envision for government use? In 2000, ADS
offered a long list of suggested tax-funded uses for the
company's biochips. These included use in soldiers,
people under house arrest, prisoners and parolees. At the same
time, the chief scientist for the development of Digital Angel,
Dr. Peter Zhou, also indicated he was "very interested"
in pursuing the Digital
Angel tracking chip as a form of national healthcare ID -- along the lines of the
universal biometric identifier proposed by
then-Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala.
Sullivan has also stated that in 5 years he expects to see the
chips implanted into children, the elderly, airport workers and
nuclear power plant workers.
We might be able to actually improve on our ability to track
personal information and habits even more completely than we do
today," McClimans told CNN last year. "In fact we can
probably make a quick buck here to boot.
Let's say
we all get together and implant everybody with these new
chips,"
he added, somewhat tongue-in-cheek.
Lamenting the lack of
"common sense" in Congress regarding the dearth of
comprehensive privacy laws, McCLimans asked: "So what will
it be: common sense or computer chips? Sadly, I think the answer
is chips. Let's face it:
The potential value is too great
a scary thought."

POSTAL --- USPS
ADS gets $25 Million for Postal Service Contract --June 14, 2004
$25 million from the United States Postal Service (USPS) to
upgrade telecommunications networks at 108 Postal Service
facilities.
Under the award, GTI will conduct site surveys,
and design, install and test network cabling at 108
mail processing plants and co-located
administrative facilities within the United States.
Included are state-of-the-art high speed copper cabling, fiber
optic backbones, and ties to the existing
telecommunications network. The contract requires careful
planning and adherence to USPS building design standards to
assure consistency and uniformity of products and configurations
at all facilities despite unique features and
requirements at each local site. GTI's work on this
project is scheduled to be completed by August 2005.
This project is the second phase of a contract awarded to GTI in
June 2003. The first phase involved network upgrades at 62
USPS locations that were successfully completed in May 2004.

GTI and the Postal Department --April 2, 2004
GTI is currently installing state-of-the-art high speed
copper cabling, fiber optic backbones, and ties to the existing
telecommunications network at 39 mail processing plants
throughout the country. These new broadband networks will enable
computers that control large complex mail sorting equipment to
exchange information much more rapidly. This is a continuation of
work begun in 2003. When completed in May, a total of 62 USPS
sites will have been upgraded in less than 1 year.
Commenting on the completion of the $15 Million dollar
project, Frank Lalley, CEO of GTI stated: "This project was
a challenge because of its complexity, urgency and value to the
customer. The Postal Service and many other agencies of the
Federal government have identified telecom projects that will
enhance their mission effectiveness and they are pressed to get
them done. We see strong demand in government to upgrade and
replace existing telecom infrastructure and we expect it to
prevail throughout the remainder of the year and into 2005. With
our GSA contracts, we believe we are well positioned to provide
telecom equipment and services that these customers need."

facilities," the company said, adding GTI is scheduled to

to at least $125-150 million in relatively high margin revenues

DoD works with IBM and
WalMart -- March 18, 2004
The three-year consulting contract includes services to help
the department develop a strategy for using RFID to improve its
supply system and inventory management.
RFID technology is in its infancy, but proponents say it will
bring higher returns on investment once companies understand how
to leverage the mound of information stored in the tags, bringing
new efficiencies and making supply-chain business
processes more affordable.

Military and Refugees.....DMPITS
Deployable Mass Population Identification and Tracking
System (DMPITS), is a very sophisticated information
system. It's a way of identifying large numbers of people, and
storing information about each of them.
It's deployable because it can be set up wherever it's
needed. Different workstations are used to check the
identity of people, or to make new entries on a centralised
database.

Gov. [Army]
and VeriChip become business partners--- June 13-2002
Practical Magic
The federal government, dogged by older technologies and an aging
workforce, will be spending more on its IT needs -- and
outsourcing more of them. And while federal dollars represent a
small slice of IT spending, the private sector is expected to
join in by reviving technologies like smart cards and pushing
biometrics even further.
Recent examples include Palm Beach, Florida-based Applied Digital Solutions ' "Verichip," an implantable device that the company hopes can be used for defense and security purposes; and a deal announced last week by Littleton, Massachusetts-based Viisage to provide its face-recognition technology to the U.S. Army. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nf/20020612/bs_nf/18185 (expired)

course. If the FDA approves the device, Applied
Digital plans to market VeriChip as VeriMed for healthcare
applications, such as in-hospital patient identification,
vaccination histories and emergency access to patient-supplied
health information.

IBM builds
fastest Comunications microchip...Feb 26-2002
The integrated circuit runs at more than 110
GigaHertz, or 110 billion cycles per second,
meaning it will be able to process more than 2.8 million
pages of text per second.
The new chip will be used in data communications equipment like
switches and routers that are used in
optical communication networks, IBM said. Such
equipment is sold by companies like networking giant Cisco
Systems Inc. .
Silicon germanium also includes layers of
germanium, a substance that is like silicon but which makes a
transistor that can switch faster and perform better.
"Reality is 110 GigaHertz," Dzubeck said.
The push toward ever-faster chips is described in
Moore's Law, created by Intel Corp. co-founder
Gordon Moore, which says that the number of transistors on a
chip doubles every 18 months.

Super Computer: 1,000 Trillion operations per
second---November 18, 2003
Columbus-based Battelle, the world's largest independent,
nonprofit research organisation, manages Oak Ridge and three
other laboratories for the US
Department of Energy.
Battelle said the computer would be 300 times faster than a
similar computer in Japan, called Earth Simulator, which can
perform 35.8 trillion operations per second.
That's a $US500 million [$696.33 million] machine,"
said William Madia, executive vice-president for
laboratory operations and former Oak Ridge director.
Ohio State University and Battelle will use the machine to
join forces. The university wants to be a leader in
biomedical research and to use Battelle's expertise at finding
commercial applications for new technology.
Among the collaborations at Ohio State are nanotechnology -
designing devices on a molecular scale - and biomedical
informatics, which uses supercomputers to clarify and interpret
huge amounts of medical data.

Administration to
set up government-run TV --- Nov. 19, 2003
As reported in the New York Observer, the
Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) plans to begin a 24-hour
broadcast service, dedicated to reporting the Iraq news it
deems important. The broadcast will be live and unfiltered
unfiltered, at least, by meddlesome journalists. Dorrance
Smith, a CPA media adviser and a former ABC News producer, told
the Observer that the network's model was the wartime broadcasts
from Centcom headquarters, which frustrated journalists with
their lack of specifics but convinced audiences that we were
blowing up a lot of stuff real good. The hope is that local TV
stations will use the feed, allowing the government to take its
reportage straight to the public.
But Bush & Co. have an unlikely media-bashing ally of sorts: Al
Gore. Speaking last week at Middle Tennessee State
University, the former Vice President bemoaned the
"quasi-hypnotic influence" of TV that, he said, has
dumbed down American political discourse.
