Biometric ID for US military -- Oct.
27, 2006
Freeland, WA, USA, October 26, 2006 -- The
United States Military Central Command is deploying soldiers to
Iraq with the latest technology in biometric security to secure
their personal and private information. Commanders at CENTCOM are
distributing the BioCert(r) ClipBio(tm) Pro 1GB fingerprint flash
drives to soldiers being deployed to Iraq.
US Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines and other
coalition forces are using the ClipBio Pro as shown on
the BioCert(r) ClipBio Pro Website to secure their personal
communications with their families, personal files, create,
store and email documents and to store confidential information
all protected with their fingerprints. The BioCert ClipBio Pro is
designed to secure up to 1Gigabyte of information with a simple
swipe of your finger.
Unlike previous generations, today's soldiers have the ability to
communicate from the field via the Internet with their families
through the use of email, video email and other high tech methods
on a regular basis. In years past, these messages from loved ones
in the battlefield used to take months to get from a combat zone
to the recipient. Now they take nano-seconds.
Todays soldier can carry everything they need to do everything
they would normally do with a PC, all in under 2 ounces - in the
palm of their hand for under a hundred dollars. Members of every
branch of service are carrying their ClipBio Pro with them in the
field." claims James Childers - CEO of Artemis Solutions
Group, makers of the BioCert ClipBio Pro Flash Drives
but also to conduct other personal business such as balancing the checkbook, budgeting, checking
or repairing their credit report, online banking
and all of the other activities that they would perform on their
PC at home.

Merchant Marines http://www.hendersondispatch.com/articles/2005/06/01/news/letters/let02.txt
There were 9,300 Merchant Mariners killed and over 12,000
wounded during World War II. The Merchant Marines
suffered the highest casualty rate of ANY service during
WWII with 1 in 26 Merchant Mariners killed.
As a proud daughter of a Merchant Mariner who participated in the
invasion of Normandy and many more missions I believe we should
honor these brave men as we honor ALL veterans!

Merchant Marine
She is pushing a bill -- HR 23 -- dubbed the "Belated
Thank You to the Merchant Mariners of World War II Act of
2005." It would provide the old mariners with a monthly
benefit of $1,000 and allow them to be treated as military
veterans for the purposes of Social Security. That would mean
slightly higher benefits.
If the mariners had the veteran designation, they could have
received $160 more per month since they retired. The average age
of a World War II veteran mariner is 81

WWII Merchant Marine veterans were responsible for piloting slow
moving cargo vessels, known as Liberty Ships, which transported
the supplies necessary to win the War. Their acts of heroism
delivering oil, gas, ammunitions, food, water, troops and
military equipment across the seven seas, resulted in the highest
casualty rate compared to the U.S. Military branches during WWII.
One of out every twenty-six Merchant Mariner was killed during
the War. They were also the only auxiliary service under the U.S.
War Department to accept servicemen with handicaps and missing
limbs, and had the highest concentration of minority servicemen

No more media coverage of returning
coffins--Oct. 21, 2003
To this problem, the Bush administration has found a
simple solution: It has ended the public dissemination of such
images by banning news coverage and photography of dead soldiers'
homecomings on all military bases.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A55816-2003Oct20.html
No coverage of returning dead soldiers
As a result, the president has decided that news
crews will no longer be allowed on military bases where they
might take photographs of the coffins of American soldiers killed
in action.
It is a significant step. It is an ill-advised step.
It is one which will likely hurt the presidents image more
than it will help his message about the progress being made in
Iraq. It might even be an unprecedented step.
George Bushs feelings toward the press, however, are not
unprecedented; http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,101187,00.html
Veterans Hospitals to close--June
6-2002
WASHINGTON (AP) - Veterans
hospitals across the country and the vets they serve will come
under intense scrutiny as officials consider where to cut back
and where to add new services.
In the end, an unknown number of hospitals are likely to close as the Department of Veterans
Affairs shifts its focus to outpatient care and works to bring
services closer to people who need them
While they keep saying they're improving services, they are
drastically cutting services," said Bruce Parry, 55, of
Veterans for Unification, a Chicago advocacy group.
